i would say that unfortunatly you do not have an LS. the Leather Sport was a vehicle only produced in 1980, bearing one of three colors, brilliant black, aurora white, or solar gold. there were 1000 brilliant black, 1000 aurora white, and 500 solar gold LS's produced. all LS's came with the solar gold painted wheels and a full size spare with the same paint scheme. the LS was based on the GS sunroof model. i have a very nice solar gold LS with 61K original miles and the car is in excellent condition. there are only a handfull of LS owners here.

In one of the threads I started...someone told me that leather was not offered in the 79...so I would have to agree that the 79 is not an LS

read my above post for the specs on the car. basically the car is rare because of its limited production number, the solar gold wheels, and the introduction of leather on an RX-7.

Was the 80 LS the only car to have the gold waffles??? I'm curious because I was told there was a gold 80 with gold waffles in a salvage yard in Montgomery, AL....wish it wasn't so far away...I need some waffles for both of my SAs....
If that's the case, though, it's a shame...DublyDurty went there this morning and said the car is an absolute mess....other than the waffles...LOL

the LS was the only 7 to have the waffle wheels. you should buy the one in the boneyard!

That's a nice LS you have there mazdaverx713b. This is kind of off-topic, but I was wondering how many people have a 79 LE? Like the LS, I believe there weren't many LE's produced. Just curious, as I have one myself.

i should rephrase by saying that the LS was the only SA to have the solar gold waffle wheels from the factory.

there were 3000 Limited's produced in 79. all were produced in Beat Black and had special wheels and pin striping, a personalized decal, special seats that matched the pinstriping, a quartz digital clock, and were based on the GS sunroof model.

What does the personalized decal look like? I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say that there were special seats that matched the pinstriping...

Hmm...I guess you must have saved the pictures from the eBay auction because that's my car in the pictures above.

mazdaverx i have the same rims as you but in silver. In my country Australia. I'm the only SA RX-7 i have seen with them. I thought they were just the stock ones for the 79-80 models.

the aluminum waffle wheels are the OEM wheel for the SA. the solar gold painted wheels were specific to the U.S. spec Leather Sport.

I did. I paid $4500, which is high for a 1st gen, but thankfully I got more than what I paid for. The car is in fabulous shape and all original.

As you can see, it is an LS. What a shame! If I lived closer than 2 1/2 hours away those wheels would definitely be on my 80...stock or not! LOL

i have half a mind to drive there and buy the whole car. there were only 500 Solar Gold LS's made..... it pains me to see one in that condition. i would restore the car to factory specs.

I wish I could afford to save her...I do need the wheels...at least I can possibly save those...if someone does happen to have the ability to go and save her, by all means, do so...

Do you have any contact information on the junkyard in Montgomery that has this LS? And in general, how did the LS gauge cluster differ from a standard 80 RX-7?

the gauge clusters are the same in an LS as they are in any other 79-80 RX-7

Thanks. Do you have any interior shots of your LS? It would be nice to see some, as most LS pics I've seen are of the exterior.
