This may seem controversal, but how do you push your RX7 in a safe manner? I love going autocrossing but thats not always possible for me to do. I'm certainly not advocating testing the limits of the car on the road, but theres atleast got to be a way to get drive the RX7 the way its meant to be driven without causing a disturbance.

The first roads I would go on were too residential, and even with visiting them once or twice a week I'd get the occasional walker that would flick me off. I also went down some old mining roads and once got a warning for doing 70 in a 30 (in my defense, its a straight paved road with no houses on it). Although I got lucky, I can't get pulled over again. So today I was cruising down a nice rural county road and was in 5th doing 55ish around not too sharp turn rated at 25mph, and to my astonishment there was a cop about halfway through. I had plenty of lane, its not like it was a near miss, but I was all over the brakes to bring my speed down, and so was the cop. I thought for sure he was going to pull me over but he kinda came to a stop and moved on. I figure if he was on this rural road he probably had some business to do. Either way I brought my car straight home as quickly and legally as possible. I still would like to enjoy the finer points of my car but with having so much attention already on it in a small community I fear I may have to drive like a grandma all the time. I know I'll see that cop again, living in a town of 600, and my car is distinctive (silver FB with bronze meshies). Now I'm afraid I won't be able to take it anywhere without bringing trouble. I use collector plates so its not exactly legal for me to drive it around for general driving purposes either...

 

I'd take those collector plates off if its not a show car, I'd imagine they could give you a hard time for that. I'm pretty sure they cant pull you over for speeding in the past.

 

There must be some FABulous roads waiting to be explored down in MI - take a longer drive to hunt them down. If you have hills you must have some great winding country roads? Just be familiar with where you "let go" so you don't stuff yourself into a tree. or a cow.

We're blessed with a low trooper-to-driver ratio here so its quite easy to get out and blast around, even in my arrest-me-red SA

To the west of me are some kickass foothills that have some nice twisties where you can legally "push" your car because the speed limit is 35 throughout the area, yet you'd be lucky to hit that through most hairpins.

I actually got pulled over there last night, but not because i was speeding or driving recklessly (even though i was sweating bullets because i figured that the cop thought i was), but because my car was "too loud" for the area which has many campgrounds incorporated in it (they are the ones who camp right off of a road? wtf do they expect?).

The only downfall of this location (besides the police now, i just KNOW that i'm on their shitlist) is the abundance of deer in the area. I'd much rather take my chances getting my licence revoked than having one of my fb's get totaled by a large buck.

 

^Ouch, before my gsl died I almost hit 3 deer. They were all staring at my headlights, one after another.

Oddly they were all on the right side of the road and wernt moving, normally i see deer leap infront and stare at you...

Oh and how'd I have fun? I used to hit twisty roads a lot but I already knew how fast I could go, at stop lights it became sorta fun using the slicks I had to launch and pwn the **** out of people

Hey I live about 5 miles away from MSR....how do you go there??? Are you a member? Do they have track days???

 

I'm a part time employee.

They do have track days. Both with various HPDE groups around the area and sometimes they have test and tune days for events which are a good way to get some affordable track time. You can check the calendar on the website to get an idea. They are also going to start posting some stuff on the local club site about events and such.

If you have experience flagging or working corners I might be able to get you a gig here working corners for track time. Basically 1 day working = 1/2 day track time. PM me if your interested.

 

we're lucky in norcal to have a ton of nice mountain roads where the speed limit is about 6-7/10ths, so its fun at, or near the speed limit.

not many cops except for the places all the kids hang out, like highway 9.

when i'm up there, NODE and i take the stock SA out, and up mt tam, its a HOOT, driver is faster than the car, which is the key
