Perhaps Autozone got something right???

Came across Autozone selling the Holley Blue + Regulator for $99.99 + Tax & Shipping.

Considering the pump by itself is listed further up the page at $155 and the retail for just the pump is around the 130-140...I consider this a deal.

Its loud as **** however if you care about noise. It delivers fuel for any setup, and works great. It's just noisy.

 

It'll probably be right at home with my exhaust as it sits right now and it's my project car with no interior and possibly soon to be aluminum dash so noise aint much of an issue...I can always get some earplugs but thanks for the heads up.

 

Going to the local Autozone to order tomorrow, no shipping charges. Thank you OP for the info! I bought a replacement pump from them a few months ago and it isn't cutting it. Wonder if they will take it back?

 

go to chinatown or wallmart. buy a cheap rubber sandals and use it as an insulator. it wont quiet it down 100% but it will reduce the vibration/rumbling. but for me, I like it loud so I know it is running

 

Sweet. I've got an unknown condition and fuel compatible pump in my SA project and it doesn't have a regulator. I'll pick this up. Worst case I return somewhere down the line.

Agreed. An old piece of radiator hose for loud Carters works for me.

My friend likes Holley blue fuel pumps and we used some radiator hose on thier brackets with great results. Still loud enough to hear them run, but no longer irritating.

Since you have experience with both, which of the two pumps do you like better? Which is the loudest?

I've always used Carter pumps in the past, but just wondered what your thoughts were since you've had a chance to compare the two.

Keep in mind the regulator that comes with the Holley Blue kit is their higher pressure regulator. It is built with a Holley carb in mind which needs 6 psi.

If you plan on running this with a weber or a Nikki, you will have to buy Holleys low pressure regulator to run around 3 psi. (Part number 510-12-804) from Jegs for $27.99

 

Yep I got my regulator already so I'm good, I'll keep the Holley regulator for something else.

Also O'Riellys has the same package for $100.68, checked with my 'go-to' guy there.

 

Those are good pumps guys and at great prices.

If you can live with the waaaaaaahhhhhhhhnnnnnnhhhaaaaaaannnnnn noise they make!!!

 

I prefer Carter. They are louder by only a little, and you take care of that with a piece of rubber. They also seem to supply a more consistant pressure compared to the weak pressure of a Holley at idle when dead-headed, making Holleys harder to set the FPR at idle. Plus Holleys start to squeak and squeal as they age. Both in my friend's vehicles do this.

 

Have yet to find an aftermarket fuel pump/regulator I like. I've stuck with stock.

 

How thick of a piece of rubber do you use Jeff? Are you just mounting the pump on the frame rail? I've always used a piece of cork gasket material behind the bracket on my Carter pumps. It's not as quiet as I would like though. Maybe the cork is too thin?

Just single layer of hose rubber. No need to double it up. That obviously means you cut out a rectangular section and drill a couple holes for mounting screws/bolts. Drill them oversize since rubber tends to grip.

After adding a rubber piece, the Carters become as quiet as the exhaust. But how loud is the exhaust? Louder than I'd like, but when the engine isn't running, the rubber damped Carters are quite pleasant. You also are supposed to use the fram rail to mount the 90 degree bracket that comes with Carters. Don't mount it to sheet metal under the bin, unless you like a loudspeaker back there.

 

I have suggested to Sam that he should consider making a spring steel mount for these pumps. Spring steel would allow the pump to vibrate all it wants, without transferring the vibration to the frame rail. Could be cheap, and highly useful.

I used some thick rubber when I mounted mine, but it's still pretty darned loud.
