Thumbs up Hi everyone! New guy here, just bought an 83 RX-7 today!

Hi!

I bought an 83 RX-7 GSL this morning at PIR whilst road-racing my Crown Vic Police Interceptor. It gets delivered on Saturday, I'm pretty excited! Thought I'd drop in and say hi and get acquainted. I did use to have an RX-7 (86 base model, N/A) a long time ago, and of all the cars I sold I missed it the most, so that's why I bough the 83.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been reading the FAQ's for 3 days now. It's been 5+ years since my last RX-7, and it was an EFI 13B car so a carb'd 12A is a whole new animal for me. I kinda bought the car on a whim, but luckily I did do some reading here and knew what to look for.

Portland International Raceway. It's a combined road course/dragstrip.

It's a nice find. It's just like the one I had in the 80's. Congrats..

Wow, it looks to be in great shape! The dashboard looks really good. Nice color too. You might want to check for rust under the rear storage bins if you haven't yet to get an idea of what you've got, body wise.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it. The car drove very nicely on the test drive, even the cruise worked.

It has manual steering, is that rare in this generation? Also it was advertised as a "Targa", but it turns out it had a factory sunroof. It has the glass roof and a metal roof plus a leather bag to stick whatever one you're not using in.

Looks like you picked up a very nice car.

Whats the badge on the fender say, behind the RX-7 one? I've never seen a badge there.

And most first gens didn't have power steering. I think power assist was an option.

Nah, just kidding. Probably an anniversary badge?

Man, that is a good find. Looks like someone removed the GSL emblems when it was repainted. The interior looks identical to mine. I ditched the original seat coverings, and redid them in leather. Nice to see another clean 83 GSL.

The badge on the fenders is a chrome square that says "GSL" in it.

There's also a sticker in the left rear window, sows a rotor and says "Mazda RX-7: IMSA GTU Champion '80, '81, '82".

Those were originally on the b-pillars. I guess someone thought it would be a different touch to put them on the fender. Still a clean car anyway.

Very nice find! I have an 84GS that use to be that very same color. I kinda painted it blue. Correct me if I`m wrong; but, I think its a fairly rare color.

Power steering is the rarity on these cars. There's no need for it.

I figured the manual steering was standard after thinking about it!

Thanks for all of the welcomes and comments, I'm pretty excited about getting back into rotaries and small sports cars.

I have more pics if you want to see them.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it. I might try to go to the Apple Blossom this year in it, even though it's coming up really soon.
