Hey Everyone!!

Just wanted to say hello! To all the other Mazda guys out there.

Obviously i'm new here, though I'm not new to mazda's.

I currently own an MX-3 that i'm working on, when all of a sudden my dad comes home with a FREE 1st gen RX-7. He says it's the 5spd and is turboed, but i question if it is turbo (you guys would know that though hehe).

Well just saying hello. I may not be here too much but i'll be by every so often to see what's up.

I'm going to read the FAQ's real quick and then get back to ya with any ?'s.

oh, and supposedly the RX-7 runs fine, it just needs a new carburetor, and only has 1 small rust spot. Also only has approx. 80,000 miles on it!!!

Yeah pictures are a must. It's real easy to tell if it is turbocharged or not. Just look under the hood, you either see one or you don't. Simple LOL Welcome to the darkside of Mazda's

Welcome to the forum, I also had an mx-3 when I found my rx-7. I ended up selling my mx-3 and my s14, since the 7 was much more unique and more fun to drive.

Now lets see some pics

lol yeah I know what a turbo is and how to spot it out hehe... i've been doing a lot of work on my MX which is actually now going to be on hold as I work on the RX

No pics yet (sorry guys).. I'm going monday to get the car towed to my house to start work on it.

Speaking of which, what would be your suggestions on the carburetor? I need a new one, and i'm just curious as to what you all performance-wise to it.

Thanks again!!!

If you want a performance carb, contact Sterling. Pretty much the best simple carb for the money, and he'll build you one for whatever your application may be. I'm going o pony up the cash eventually and get one for my SA.

Sterling FTW if you're not ported. I guess he's testing a version of his carb for ported engines, too. Weber/Dellorto are pretty sweet two-barrels, and is what I'll be going with. Edelbrocks are a good budget solution that will run alright off the shelf, but they sometimes suffer from fuel-slosh issues.

looks like an 84-85 S that desperatly needs a carb rebuild... looks as though someone removed the top of the carb. definatly not a turbo'd engine. just a standard 12A.

That engine bay looks very similar to my GSL's when I first got it. It should clean up well.

Actually, I'm thinking '83. It has the S2-style front fascia and cowl, but with a beehive oil cooler.

I spy Steelies and a sunroof. It may be an S or i may be a GS. Depends on what kind of doodads are inside. Outside looks pretty good but that engine bay needs some work. Post more day pics and interior!

yeah that does look like a sunroof. if so that would make it a GS without the alloys!

It's a 83, its got the single windshield washer and the beehive oil cooler. 84/85 would have the pair of washer nozzles. I agree that its probably a S, don't think GS ever came with steel wheels....

Looks like a good project, needs some tlc. Good luck with it!

Guy said it was an '83, so I guess he may be right on that one hehe.

It seems I got a good car, and haha you guys are making me all excited.

I didn't get any interior pics but he said it's solid and no problems. The door was cracked open when we found it so there may be water damage, but i'm not sure... me and my dad are getting the car this friday, so i'll post more pics then

It was available as a option as odd as that sounds..... It could be a GS with no badge on the back and steel wheels put on it for some reason.... Assuming no major changes have been done its definatly a 83 though....

^^^He's right. The sunroof was a dealer option on the S models. But it is possible for it to be a GS with steelies due to alloys being bent/damaged/destroyed. Although it wouldn't have any model badges on the back regardless as that was on the S3's only. Only S2's got a GSL badge on the b-pillars(aside from Limited models) and even that is sporatic
