HELP with $1500 rx7 I found

Ok guys, sorry if this post doesnt belong within these threads.
My dad and I were out for a drive when we saw an 1983 rx7 for sale we figured lets take a look at it but it turns out to be more than what we thought "being that most of the untouched first gens we encounter never run" lol... The car fires up smoothly with no hesitations and its smooth at idle it never had been messed with it has a busted passenger quarter panel glass passenger fender slightly bent & carb. needs rebuild, the guy is asking $1500 for it firm seats are in bad shape "both of them" center piece between tail-lights is warped "am guessing heat" never wrecked paint needs to be buffed out to shine... Does it sound worth it for the price or is it to much what would you guys on here pay for a first gen with smilar conditions as described here?

Help Please!
Thanks.

doesnt sound too high but i'd offer about $1000, especially if it has some small issues as you described but runs well overall. best to take it for a drive and inspect other areas of the car while driving it to make a better assessment. were you able to take any pics of the car?

Sounds like it needs a lot of work. But pics tell the tale.

Offer the guy $1k and see what happens.

Can you even buy those quarter glass windows? Reupholstering the seats will probably run around $400 in cloth. As far as buffing out the paint, are you sure the clearcoat is still on there. If not, it needs to be painted.

Thanks Guys, I too thought around 1,000 if not less. As far as the paint goes didnt really take a good look at it that closely since it probably would get painted anyhow. I think but not sure that quarter glass can be found but it will cost a pretty penny am sure. About the rust didnt find any did look for that since I wouldnt want to get into a rust bucket, lol. Am calling the guy up tomorrow and might offer him 800 but for sure wont pass 1,000 if not then is not meant to be in my opinion wish me luck guys and thanks for all your tips sure helps to have other opinions to make a better decision on this one, thanks.

I think value is in the eye of the beholder. If the body is rust free and staight and the engine/drivetrain is intact and in running shape, then I say it is worth it for the $1500. The RX7 is not for the faint of heart, so to speak. You have to be a DIY mechanic to appreciate the beauty of this car. If you have to hire someone to "fix it up" then no price is worth it for an RX7. I wouldn't take a free RX7 if I couldn't do the work myself.

So, if you are looking for a solid starter car then this one sounds good for $1500. It doesn't hurt to offer him/her less. If they say no you always pay what they are asking.

But to me, bottom line, if it is rust free and runs well, the other stuff is minor and is expected in a car that is 27+ years old.

I was quoted $600 to do the seats in my FB. Someone here was selling the rear windows with the cool factory stickers.
