Hello I need help

I’m trying to join the RX-7 community and I’m currently looking at an FB for cheap and since I’m new to it idk if I should go for it and fix it up or just go for a higher cost but more put together one
1984 I can’t tell if it’s a 12A or 13B with a carb swap, turns over but doesn’t start, been sitting a good long while obviously. Asking 2k. Any advice is appreciated. Some context I’m a technician professionally and have already restored an 88 corvette so I’m not new to restoring or mechanics, just the RX cars and rotors

The rough looking ‘84 is a GSL. Which if complete would have limited slip and 4 disc brakes. This one has a 12a as well.

At this stage in the life of a first generation Rx7 I would advise against basket case projects. Replacement parts are hard to find without places like Riggs or Curt Robertson. At least I haven’t seen any at the wreckers in ages. There are no restoration stores. No door card reproductions. You get the idea. Brake calipers can be difficult to find..

not saying restoration is impossible, but you may have to wait some time to find that dash in acceptable condition for example. Good 12a housings are also rare, and NLA. So a 13b swap could be needed.

the white specimen could be a contender, but that cut up dash with gauges kinda does me in. That’s just me.

plus its not an 84, so you get the additional fun of figuring out what happened before you got it.

the car would restore pretty well though, it looks pretty complete, and straight enough. finding the interior parts would be the hard part

Stay away. Look for something more complete and untouched if possible. The cheapest isn't always the best after adding in all the thing that need to be bought.

Thank you

Thanks for the input, much farther away and for a big more money I found this one that runs, it’s a 1990 with some modifications done to it, has a bad alternator and no electric fan, thoughts on it? Only thing I don’t like is convertible but it’s not a huge deal I don’t think.

Looks loved. Seats are tired but looks clean overall. That car actually makes a great convertible.
