New from Minneapolis
Hello All,
Been meaning to do this for years. Now in need of advice as my 12A is toast, so here I am.
Photos from the last decade of my 80. Always like seeing photos of the cars on this site. My turn to share a few.
2011 in storage for 10 years
2011 getting ready for paint
2015

'80 bumper inserts
Banzai, thanks for the welcome. They are fiberglass and are from Xerxes Design, Ken Copple, in Omaha. Probably purchased around '82. Realized I did not include a photo that showed the back. About the engine, pretty sure that the parts I have are toast, but will save that for my first new member post. I will be getting it up and running this summer one way or another but want to solicit advice from the forum on replacement options.

Are you the original owner? Those inserts are pretty rare. This is the first time I remember seeing a car on the forums here with them. Ken Couple, is this guy still around do you know? Yes, it was out of Omaha. I bought one of his front air dams back in the day. It was on my car for about 24 years. In 2004, I guess I out grew it and re installed my regular front bumper again. Still had all the original hardware and everything.
The air dam is up in my garage attic now, along with its original hardware and instructions. When I took it back off after all that time, you couldn't even tell that it was ever mounted. No scuff marks or anything. Hard to believe it's been off for almost 20 years now too. Here's an old pic.
So your engine, guess you need to open it up to know for sure. As long as the housings are still good its fixable. Sourcing new ones (or serviceable used ones) is still possible, but can be pricy. Whole engines come up from time to time, just saw a 41K mile engine out of a wrecked 80 that went for $2,500. Would have dropped right in.

Hi Banzai and Mazdaverx,
Car was my dad's. He bought it when I was in High School, so needless to say I did not get to drive it for the first decade! He did the mods in the early 80's I've just freshened them up. I have made some additions, but pretty low key. The rear rotor went in the mid 90's and it was stored until 2011 when I took over.
Banzai, I know nothing more about Xerxes (Ken) but I do think the inserts still enhance the look. Thanks for sharing the photo. I would have been all over that 41K mile engine. If you hear of another in the not too distant future I'd be interested.
