Question Headrest removal

got my 85 GS back on the road after just sitting for 8 years. I got some seat covers but can't figure out how to get the headrest off.

There's a button to push that allows the shaft to come out.

thanks for the reply. Was able to get the cover on without taking the headrest off.

Well, you probably will want to remove the headrest or others might want to know so...

Looking at the headrest from the front, on the RH side at the base (where the shafts enter the seat) there are is a plastic grommet from each shaft.

The RH side grommet has a slot ion the RH side. If you look inside, you will see a spring loaded clip. This clip holds the shaft in place.

Insert a icepick, or small flathead screwdriver (from the front) in the grommet and engage the clip - moving it rearward as you lift upwards on the headrest.

Once the clip is pulled away and disengaged from the shaft the headrest will come out freely.

The clip is only on the RH side grommet (for either seat pax or drivers). 1 clip per seat.

Installation you do not need to do anything other than insert the shafts back into the grommets and push down. It reengages automatically.

Hope this helps.
