hatch latch outer piece engraving

Where i work we have a laser engraver. I'm going to get the outer piece of the hatch latch engraved with something.

trouble is im torn between a plain jane rotary logo

and the fb rx7 logo. which i cant seem to find a basic image of. just the logo in a gif or jpg that i can send to laser engraver.

i'm leaning towards the rx7 one. but i cant find an image like the rotor one above. so if anyone has one or can make one that would be suuuper. so the rotor may win by default

the single rotor by the time was scaled down the visual detail will not be as sharp

or do something different or personal like your screen name

haha. the screenname is something i came up with in like 5th or 6th grade. it sounded really cool when i was 10. now its kind of embarrassing. but ive just never bothered to get rid of it. its my screenname for just about everything that uses a screenname. its not going on the car tho.

speaking of personalizations tho. i could do the double T. Texas Tech. i may have to buy some spares and just swap them out every once in a while. hm...

Have it engraved with the Rx-7 that was there before, just more ornate.

I'd redo the FB logo. I want to try to replicate the original one on mine because it fades over time.

There's a gent been on the forms here a long time, from Argentina I believe, who used to make custom vinyl gauge faces and decals for our cars, including a dimensionally-accurate representation of the original rear hatch latch logo. He did a set of chrome-vinyl decals for my air-cleaner that were perfect reproductions of the original paint-on logos.

Perhaps if you find him and ask him real nicely, he'd share his vector graphic file for that sticker with you?

Goes by -xlr8planet- . Give him a PM, see what he says. May take him a bit to respond, though.

I sure could use a couple of those stock RX-7 imprints for the hatch piece. Mine are all faded and I always get jealous when I see nice looking ones at the OGTA meets.

There must be a way.

In any case, I vote for "neither of the above". Not nearly as classy as the original, IMHO.

It's a pity that the scheme is not reversed; black chrome body with bright chrome lettering would be smokin' hot.

Am I weird for wanting that stuffed rotor critter?

'Cause I do.

^No, I would pick that up too lol. I also agree, I wish the lettering was chrome instead of the whole thing. Kinda thinking I might pick one up anyway, all of my original ones are pretty beat. The reproduction Savanna rx7 badges are pretty sweet too!

I might order one anyway and scuff it and shoot some paint on. It looks like a much better part than the stock one, and the Rx7 looks to be actually engraved in it. On the stock piece its just some raised paint, if you try to sand it, the lettering just comes right off!

well i could get ahold of a vector file for the the fb logo. nor could i get one of the logo that was painted on. but since i was making this myself anyway, i didnt really want to reuse the one that was there.

i found a vector file on a logo website that had it in a decent looking font. so i sprung. resized it. and... viola!

i stripped the old paint with a wire wheel on a bench grinder, then spent a good 10 minutes on a polishing wheel with wax to give it a good shine and protect it.

the nice thing about the engraving its at a different depth and can be read clearly at almost any angle.

its slightly off center. i think due to placement in the machine, measurement error, and the rounds on the edges are of slightly different curvature.

anyway, im super pleased with it. one more small project to check off the list.

That's really nice looking piece deadphoenix, how much would one expect to pay for such a service? I'd be intrested if the price is right. Any other custom fonts possible? Again nice work.
