Here's mine. 48,000 miles I would buy another one if I could find one for a realistic price. Dark grey, black, or brown would be nice.

Yea from 20 feet away.ha The beige really hides the many flaws I would love to see an original pristine version. A few guys have them on here I have read, I'd just like to see one in person. I really like the dark gray paint and both browns. If I could find a real mint se in one of those colors for sale, I would be all over it.

Tell me about it.

It's now a running driving car. Took a while to get here. Lots of parts to track down. Still lots more to do. Interior is still not done but I think I have enough parts to make the dash more or less complete. Rear carpeting is still missing, but I don't mind.

Mechanically it's pretty good. Hockey puck motor mounts. Competition trans mount. New MSD pump and mallory fpr - converted to carb and a 4 port R5 13B. Would I ever do any other kind of engine? Not me. Never. Hogged out Nikki on a rare NO manifold. RB long primary exhaust. Light steel flywheel. This drives really well and 100% better than my brother's GSL-SE which was stock and kinda tired. Really a night and day difference. Oh and this GSL-SE won't flood like a stocker will. LOL Sorry to any purists out there. I know we have some in here. Keep your nice SEs nice. I'll mod mine 'til it's everything I've always wanted 1st gen to be.

My SE, this is my 8th 7 but first one I've had since my 93r1( I Bought new & was stolen in 94). Had 2 84 gsl's, 1 80sa, 1le, 1, gs, & 1 T2. Of all my 93 was my fav. This Se is my first 1st gen with the 13b and is a very close 2nd. Is is all original (xcept for some upgrades) and mechanically is mint. I've gone through it completely. RB- oil lines & full exhaust, all new stainless brake lines, rotors and calipers. Replaced every bushing with and energy suspension kit, nos stock springs, blue tokicos. Replaced ac dryer and exp valve and charged with r-12. Blows 34 degrees at vent here in south fla. interior and rust free body is all original and the paint could use some help (last thing on the list), but still looks good from 10 feet. The motor is the original and has never been apart. Currently has 208k on it, not my dd but i drive the **** out of it 2 or 3 times aweek, does not leak a drop of oil and compression is perfect. Runs like a bat out of hell. Has the original bra, louvers, and bronze sunroof. Also has build date of 5/85 and has factory matching mirrors and all the original Mazda Bronze glass. I put the factory moldings, steering wheel, shifter and shift boot back on. And resprayed the rear plastics (due to fading). Everything electrical works, including the rear wiper, defrost and power antenna. Currently I'm modifying the the original radio for an aux input and that will go back in also.

Bought my 85 SE in July for $2500. 147k on original engine. Have put a lot more than that in mechanical work, interior work and body work and paint.

1985 gsl se

New to the forum - just picked it up off of eBay. I bought the 1st gen as my first car at 16 was a 1979 with an Auto....trying to feel young again I guess! It's a bit of a project for sure. Really hard to find parts for these things - I am a bit of a BMW guy and am not as plugged into this scene.

Any recommendations on where to source interior bits (radio trim surround - the thingy where the window switches and the balance joystick various trim panels etc...) would be greatly appreciated!

You can still get the power window switch panel and other parts from Mazda.

CONSOLE. Fits: 1985 Mazda RX-7 | Jim Ellis Mazda

I got other interior pieces from Mazdatrix

Mine is an 84 beige over brown leather with 214K! I've only had it for 9 months, but it runs like a top! I believe it was rebuilt at some point. I basically daily drove it until 2 weeks ago when I picked up a nice 1 owner RX-8. Now I drive the SE twice a week. Eventually I want to restore it.

VA Bought mine new in '84

Just joined the forum and found this thread. I bought my '84 GSL-SE off the showroom floor in 1984. It's still all original, great paint and interior, about 95K miles, and sitting in my garage. Every time I take it out, I am still excited to drive it. Such a fun little car!

While I have a GSL, not an SE, let me be the first to welcome you to the ever shrinking club of original owners on the 1st Gen forum
