GSL LE Badges

I have seen one picture with the "MAZDA" front hood and rear badges that were chrome plastic ( like the GSL -LE badge ) , but most others black ???

Is the "MAZDA" badge OEM chromed plastic ?

if you go to the dealership and order new badges you get this;

79-80 the "mazda" badges are black with a chrome surround

81-85 the "mazda" badges are just shiny black plastic, they turn semi gloss when they get old

if you want chrome mazda badges, they exist, they come from another car, like a 626/protege. i don't recall off the top. the chrome ones are identical except they are chrome, so they pop right in.

Through '85, the MAZDA badges were black, front header panel and and rear. The model designations are chrome over black.

You can purchase similar-sized, later-model MAZDA badges in full chrome, which I have done. I think that having all three of these badges in chrome looks much better.

First pic: Rear w/chrome badges
Second pic: Comparison of original black badge with newer chrome badge. I'm using same chrome badge on the header panel. Slightly smaller badge is more aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion.

some foreign market SAs (and maybe FBs) came with the chrome-finished "Mazda" nose and tail badges-
eg: Europe. Have several european brochures that have photos of SAs with this.

All these are on the stock pins & holes.

Well I went to the Mazda dealership after work and picked up two Protege chrome badges for $5.34 ea ..... amazing price really .

they are the same logo and size and pin position as origonal MAZDA rear bage on the SA . I may use these on my '79 project underway

Part no. 59-026-A 1 5

I saw the Mazda 3 chrome badge which is slightly larger and would match the larger hood SA badge. I didn't buy it but similar cheap price

Thanks guys for the info on later model parts
