Ground questions
Hey guys
I'm relocating my battery to the driver storage compartment and I'm curious about grounding it
First of all I have an 85 12a base model and I'm stripping the wiring harness to the minimum (a/c,p/s,p/windows,etc)
And I was wondering if grounding my battery to the chassis and engine to the chassis, would be enough grounding for the car??
Thanks
Eric

That's worked so far for me. I drilled two holes to mount the battery tray to the crossmember behind the seats and bolted my ground wire directly to one of the bolts and ran on from the engine to the frame rail. No problems (related to that) in three years.
I will pose a question though. If your relocating the battery is there a reason you aren't moving it to the passenger side? You'll see better weight distribution putting it there than behind you where there is already more weight (you) than the passenger side.

Just make sure that you ground the battery directly to the frame rail, not to a panel that's close and seems to be joined to it. Many of the seams are that body panel glue, maybe a few tack welds here and there, and not great for grounding. The frame rail is solid front to back of car.
Then you can pull a ground from the frame rail right by the firewall across to the rear iron lower bolt (that goes through to the starter). You'll have a nice, short length of wire on both ends, and the whole thing should be good.
The only thing you'll be losing is the additional strut-tower ground point, which the ignition coils, headlight retractor, and one of the main harness grounds is grounded to. That said, there are enough tack welds between the strut-tower/inner fender and the frame rail that you'll probably be fine...
