Excellent Presentation+Low miles+rare color=some crazy bidding.
Hang on to your SAs folks - this price will not be repeated anytime soon. Worlds have collided. Still, something to dream about as you wax your Beloved in the driveway this weekend....
The "goldfinger" moniker is semi-legit BTW, as the photographer who shot the set for the auction tagged it, appropriately methinks, with the name.

Amazingly nice car - worth the current price easily, but notice the reserve is still above the current bids.
I wonder where the screws for the shift surround went? That, and the ill-advised blond nylon wire ties on the AC lines (Tied to the brake line? Srsly?) were the only missing/incorrect items I could see.
The engine bay/undercarriage/interior shots I am going to shamelessly pilfer tonight for my archives - they are the best "original build" detail shots I've ever seen.

that might be the best car ad i've ever seen, ever. the pics are awesome, the car looks great.
judging from the underneath shots, they seem to have done a really thorough cleaning.
other than the couple little things DD pointed out, its how a car should be, lots of good pics, and no list of broken stuff (all it needs is a radiator...) car like this should command top dollar.

Yah - some surprisingly obvious details lacking here and there. Suspect its a consigned car. With all the Love its obv received over the years I am puzzled the Owner wouldn't correct the shift plate issues.
That and I am puzzled why the undercarriage is such mess. A few (on other forums) have commented on its appearing to have been driven on logging roads or some such non-paved environ. My then-60K SoCali SA was far cleaner below (but not as shiney above) when I got it (tho I think anything other than paved roads are illegal in Cali?) Strange contrast.
DD the zip-tied AC hose caught me too. Yoik!
Wouldn't surprise to see the reserve unmet and a no-sale on this. $10k now is all the money+ for a really nice SA. I have seen several low-milers (recent minty Auto 79 with 27K mi for eg) falling flat then relisting lower again later. But this one is the most actively bid-on one I have seen in quite a while. And with good reason. Wondering if its just 2 guys "upping" each other on a must-have car? Auctioneers dream...

agreed 10k is a bit beyond top dollar, they'd be daft not to take the top bidders $$!
the shifter plate is odd, does it not match the center panel? on a 10k car $2 for screws is in the budget...
and the air cleaner lid is crooked

the younger guys will say I'm "hating"
but I just don't see it, why has the price gone so high?
anyone notice the gouge in the front lip? ... going to sent the bar that high stuff like that should have been fixed
zip ties?? if you just have to use ... they make black
as dirty as that car is underneath ... respray?

Well, I would certainly want to take a walk-around and a bit of drive before I plunked down $10Large.
FWIW this is a pretty high-end dealer (one of the biggest Ferrari dealers in the NW IIRC) so it would not serve them well to misrep the car. I think the mileage and originality (ie, paint) are as stated. Really small-potatoes car considering their high-dollar inventory..

its an EARLY 1980. note the 79 type vin tag and the paint sticker. later in 1980 Mazda changed their vin tag to a design that carried over to the FB body style and they got rid of that paint sticker with the addition of the later vin tag. the paint code was incorporated into the vin tag.
Solar Gold is a rare color on all accounts, and seeing it on a non Leather Sport model is even more rare.. a clean car despite the nasty undercoating crap that they covered the underside with..

BTW, don't know if anyone else noticed this - - but it's a Cali-Spec car. 8344 emissions build.
Ashtray's missing - only shows up in a couple shots. Another easy part to procure a replacement for. Wonder why it was left to be missing?
There's a couple non-spec holes in the top of the center armrest - - like it had previously had a bolt-on top pad there.

Still at $11k... seems to have sucked up all the oxy just now. Active bidders are probably going to try to bum-rush it right at the end, if still interested. & if real people.
I would enjoy owning that car, as a nice complement to the Beastie... but it's pushing into clean-FD territory price-wise.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the red overspray on the plastic battery tray. Looks tacky and out of place to me. The small things this car needs are not really worth picking on. Although not a popular opinion, my opinion is that this car is priced about right. 7s should be up there more level with the Z cars. If period Trans Ams and the like can go for 25-30K, why does the J-tin languish below 10? I believe that the very thing that makes our cars unique, also holds them back. The Rotary engine. Nothing wrong with it, it just isn't the american cubic inch vision of apple pie.
We've always been big enough to thumb our nose at the "continent" (football vs. soccer or english vs. metric) but I suspect that as time goes by and the world shrinks, we will all gradually become more and more alike. One global melting pot. This ad really shows the power of good advertising. The soft, glowing pictures tease your eyes and seduce your inner soul. You get lost in the fantasy and next thing you remember your wakeing up with a wedding ring on!
Seriousy, this is a nice car, shot professionally with exceptional use of backdrop and light to enhance the cars color and desireability. I'm sure many of you have also noticed the Limited that is on its 3rd or 4th run on eBay right now. This belongs to a forum member (not me) and is a nice example of a special model that hasn't atracted a single bid for 3 auctions now. He's asking $5,500 which again, isn't a bad deal in my mind. If everything was level, you could buy that car for the asking, invest another 4-5K to make it just as nice as the Goldfinger and sell it all day long for the same kind of money.
Don't get me wrong, I like the attention this car is getting, but I'm also interested in seeing if (as DD says) it ends up "real". I hope so, cause if these speciality dealerships find there is money to be made in our little sewing machines, they will seek more of them out and help drive all our values up.

Yea, it's definitely a beautiful car with very minor flaws. The thing that irks me slightly is that it had AZ plates from the previous owner, and I live in AZ and never saw the previous "for sale" ad. Is that color fairly rare? Not sure if I've ever seen one in that color before in such nice condition. Guys, I hate to bring this up, but the only way our community will ever see significant appreciation for these clean examples is when WE as a community start stepping up to bid prices higher instead of ******* owners in an attempt to drag prices down. As time goes on, pristine examples like this one become harder and harder to find. Let's reward some of our finest examples by paying owners what they're worth.
