GM Trucks' Ad, 220,000 miles

Since our cars are the oldest of those on this site, I thought I'd share an ad I found hilarious here. A GM Truck Ad was showing the number of miles that some GM trucks had survived and were still on the road.

180k, 220k miles and so on.....the Ad for GM trucks bragged.

Hell , I put in an Atkins rebuilt at 224K miles four or five years ago....and Mazda isn't so proud that they have to make a TV commercial about it.

And some of those trucks really looked like crap.

Let's see. Of the cars I have personally owned:

85 RX7 213,000 (motor lost apex seal, replaced with used motor)

83 Datsun Maxima 260,000 (this was the straight six, before then went V-6, and was still running when towed to junkyard)

83 Datsun 310 280,000 (fun car, used to race down snowmobile trails on summer nights. Again, still running when junked due to rust)

98 BMW 328i 140,000 (current vehicle, still runs/drives better than a new GM)

And a bunch of others. GM bragging about anything is a bit of a joke in my opinion..... It seems like the standard rule was always "an American car is worn out by 100,000 miles/a Jap car is just getting broken in by that point".

i think most of the GSL-SE's can beat that.... we used to see one that had 230,000 on the ORIGINAL CLUTCH.

i've even seen 200,000mile FD's...

Obviously you missed the truck on that commercial that had over 1,000,000 miles on it.... Lets see an untouched rotary do that!!

I am not knocking Mazda, but I am not knocking Chevy trucks either.... had plenty of Chevy trucks last a long time...

When Mazda designs a truck that can pull 15,000# then I will consider one!

In 1993 I bought a 1984 Jetta with 3,4XX miles on it. The title stated 403,4XX miles. Supposedly it reached the end of the counter at 399,999. It ran like a champ after I replaced the valve seals. The car looked like *** though. I had a set of vice grip to use as my window cranks to lower them.

Unless that is on the original engine, I have seen Volvo P1800s and VW bugs do that.

My own Chevy truck has 185,000 on it and looks and runs better than a lot of trucks with 150,000 less on them.

If Mazda did build a truck that could pull 15,000 lbs then it wouldn't be a Mazda, it would be a Ford. I would stick with my Chevy in that case.

If they lasted such a long time, why have you had "plenty" of them?
