http://www.collectorcarpricetracker....ars/1979-1986/
Received an email from Keith Martin's Collector Car Price Tracking yesterday that has the 1st Generation RX-7 again featured.
Here's the portion of the email with link that allows you to enjoy a temporary PRO Membership for the featured RX-7 search and your first three searches free. Not sure how long the free search link will be active. Give it a look ASAP.
____________
WHAT'S AN RX-7 WORTH?
FIND OUT HERE: http://www.collectorcarpricetracker....ars/1979-1986/
1979-86 Mazda RX-7
A crackerjack basic sports car from Mazda, it gave rotary engines one last chance. This time it was right; these engines last up to 250k miles. More than 474k were built, so they're easy to find and the best still only cost about $3k. Forget outdated printed price guides, choose from over 1,000 RX-7s on the CCPT to find out what they're REALLY selling for, based on REAL prices!

Thanks for the great link Mike. Keith Martin knows the business. This is good info if you are in the market to either buy or sell your car. Takes some of the emotion out of it and shows more of the hard facts. Good post!

Nice find Mike!
I dunno Chris - easier-said-than-done
Sports cars aren't like buying a Prius - can you really take the emotional factor out? Not saying a $9K minty '79 Limited is based on reality, but bearing in mind $3K for a "nice" RX7 is a realistic starting point, most of us will go the extra mile ($) to get one we _really_ want. Ask me how I know....

I have NO idea what you are talking about

Banzai - I think the 'dude has about 20 SAs in a barn somewhere in the plains of Texas - ALL of which were, ah, "emotional" purchases. So I _think_ he's agreeing with me.

To me, "emotional"means allowing yourself to be swayed by your heart instead of your head. Yes, we are all emotional about these cars, especially some special favorite model. But facts and information like Mr. Martins, help estlablish what the actual market is. Otherwise it's all just hearsay and personal opinion.
Mickster, I agree the time is ripe to reap future rewards.

The way I try to keep some emotion out is I don't buy on first look in fact i usually don't buy on second look. Then the wife and I try to figure out why I NEED another car and what we are going to do with it.
that is about the best I can do. Having said that if it is a car I want and start going after it I usually end up with it regardless of the price.
when I see a cherry SA I want, I scream like a little girl and start tossing $$ out of my wallet. Seems to scare people enough to get me what I want....
does NOT seem to work for traffic tickets tho tho

Dude, please don't cry. Just look at all the neat things you have to play with now! And Stu, the day you start tossing $$ out your wallet, you just let me know!!!
These things can and are emotional moments. Dammed if you do, Dammed if you don't. Some times if you wait too long to pull the trigger, you lose out and the car goes the the quicker draw. That's when the Stu syndrome kicks in and you start throwing money at the seller.
I like to know the facts of what's a good, sensibile deal to begin with. Then adjust for the actual car I'm looking at and it's condition. If a good normal deal is 5K the car is a real cherry with an asking of 7K, I'll try for a compromise but wouldn't be afraid to go higher If i really wanted it. If I didn't have the money to begin with, I just wouldn't be seriously looking. I'd be waxing the fenders I already have.
