This will give you a good laugh, my ninja was only a 250. I outgrew the bike the night I bought it, I was being a little too cautious and decided to buy the beginner bike. Anyways my friend is selling his R6 which he let me test ride, it was stupidly fast (for me anyways) and handled much better, but it wasn't all that I hoped it would be. It was a thrill, it was fun, but I just want a 1st gen 7 more. I guess I've finally hit that point in my life where it's not all about speed. Found a forum member in WI that's selling a pretty clean first gen, hope it works out.

I used to have an old Yamaha Seca 650 (non turbo)... I loved that thing! bought it for a grand in mint condition, 11k miles. Not the fastest thing in the world but it would redline in 5th at 125 in a heartbeat. It was between a cruiser and a sport bike, and mostly just cruised in it. I miss her, but I sold her for money for my 7

My old bike looked EXACTLY like this, only the red was more maroon:

Bikes may be awesome, but 7's won't make organ donors

holy hell yes. I've ridden all flavors of GSXR's, R6's, blah blah blah, but the 675 is the bike I remember riding, what a machine.

It and my Tuono are head and shoulders more enjoyable than anything else, and they're both very different.

to the OP, I'm glad you understand how stupid (in a good way) 600's really are. I used to sell bikes and once watched a guy buy a gsxr 1000 for his first because he was "too heavy for a 600." He lasted about 15 minutes, literally.

btw, rx7+exhaust wrap=poon

my point was more about how less power can be more fun. My buddy has an ae86, and I'd still take my 7 over it.

It's been a while since I've owned a 7, and longer since I owned a first gen 7. Anyways long story short a few years ago I had a first gen rx-7 that I absolutely loved. However, I was in college at the time so cash was short and I had to sell it for some thing more reliable and winter friendly. So I wound up trading it for an NA FC, thinking it would be some what fun, but easier to live with, I soon learned that NA FC's felt more like a RWD camry and couldn't even come close to giving me the same amount of quirky and raw fun the first gen did. Fast forward a bit, I drive a boring protege to work and and I picked up a ninja as my toy. Now I've saved up a decent amount of cash to buy a bigger bike, but to be honest and this is where it gets weird, I just don't think a 700cc+ crotch rocket is as much fun as my first gen was. I've also toyed with the idea of picking up different car and done a lot of test drives and to be honest a z28 camaro, or awd turbo eclipse just isn't nearly as fun. So here I am sitting on a decent chunk of money that was meant for a sport bike and I'm honestly thinking of just going out and picking up another FB. Am I nuts? are there any other people here that think a car that runs 17's in the quarter is more fun then a newer 14 second sports car, or a bike that runs 11's? I'm somewhat conflicted, figure I'd ask for your input.
You can't replace feedback and mechanical directness with horsepower. A numb car is a numb car, no matter how fast it is. I'll take fun-to-drive over acceleration any day. I have a modern sports car with almost 3x the power of a 1st gen that's renowned for it's steering feel and chassis dynamics, but it's not as much fun to drive. And forget about an Eclipse. The only one to buy is the AWD version and that's just for getting around in the snow. Other than that, it's just not entertaining to drive. Give me light weight and handling quirks any day.

Here's a pic of the babies in the garage and the snowmobiles in the driveway.

purple82, is that a Porsche Boxster on the right? And, nice "snowmobiles"

And, I second what purple82 said. I love my FB and how it is. It's a true sports car, and so much fun to drive.

Yup, it's a Boxster S. It's a great car, but it can't replace the Rx-7.

Well, I'm going to check the car out today, if it's on the up and up I'll be a 1st gen owner once again.

I got it yesterday! The car is in immaculate shape, it only has a couple small inconspicuous surface rust spots which I already have a body guy on. I also put it on a lift to inspect the the under body and I didn't find one grain of rust. It's a welcomed change from the my last rot box of a first gen. I'll post pics later.
