First Gen Hoods

First Gen Hoods
Make great sleds. Had a spare hood here and we were taking apart a cavalier. Nowhere to put the engine as we have no engine hoist, so we put the engine on the hood and tied it to a tow hook on the back of a S5.
Then things got interesting....
This is me on the first try:

Here is Andre, another 7 owner:

And the final video of me. Gotta love the ending :

Yeah, now I am resting on my recliner cause my back is KILLING me.
SO! This thread will be about using RX7 parts for their non-intended purposes. Whats your story?

I don't have spare parts to do that with, but here is my story about being called a Neanderthal by my Grandpa.
I do the vast majority of my work on my 7 in my Grandpa's barn, because he has a hoist, cherry picker, and a full host of tools. We were stripping my '82 to send the shell off to the scrap yard, and realized that the cherry picker was buried behind about 5 feet of other engines, etc. and had a 6cyl Isuzu diesel hooked to it. My room mate and I used two 2x4's and a section or rope to pull out the 12a and 5 speed. MY grandpa walked in when we got to full extention and started walking forward.

I don't have any heavy spare parts laying around yet but we'll see what happens after i swap motors in spring.
Lets see a pic of that hood? I bet it's not looking too good. Haha!
PS: What are the specs on that FC? That exhaust sounds hella nice.

If you got a bigger person on the back, the car will choke up and stall haha. It was fun!
Also, this is a testament to the bulletproofness of the 1st gen. The hood has NO holes (even after running over a LARGE gravel driveway 6 times!) and the hood latch catch isn't even bent!
Also, in the first 2 video's we were sitting on a cavalier seat. The third one, well, surfs up

I have no real clue on his FC, minus that he has an Apexi exhaust, and his comp has been reflashed to have no warm up and no rev limiter or something like that. Fairly quick, but my RX will pull him on the highway, even with the smaller 12a and Nikki carb

Lazy man's jack stands:
How to rust out your engine bay:
How to get your neighbors excited:
Extra boost from modified clutch fans:

Hanging out with the goats:
It's a logging road but it works for RX-7s too:
Holly getting loose with here sledge:

Yeah Jackson's my drinking buddy, we share a beer at the end of the day, he listens to all my problems.
Stu, how's your butt? Are you taking the FB hood out again this afternoon, it's a beautiful day for hood sledding, in the 70's and sunny here in NE GA this afternoon.
Any more non-intended purposes out there?

Also, it rained here. LOTS. I hydroplaned a few times coming home tonight.

Definitely abuse, I wouldn't do that to my White One. But then, for an RX-7, is it "unintended use"? Some people say they were built to be abused.
Incidentally, what's that little electronic contraption on your windshield, the one with the red light on it? That wouldn't be one of those radar detectors used to foil the local police would it? I thought those were illegal in Ohio.
Of course, being the law abiding citizen we all know you to be Dave, you might be using it as a deer detector, which would of course count as "unintended use".

here is the last video of abuse:
taken in spring time of 04...i would NEVER EVER be doing this to the LS now. i was a few years younger, no family and on active duty in the army. i guess i just wanted to see what it had.
Ray, i try and be as law abiding as i can. the job kinda relies on it, lol...but i do like to have my fun. 250hp under the hood of the crown vic is a nice treat and car easialy eat through rear tires..or so i've heard....
that little contraption is uh...um...not a radar detector but an uh...device used to measure 88mph so that i may travel back to the future. not illegal in ohio but from work experience do not provide great protection. its in the garage in one of my toolboxes..havent used the thing in years. it would look bad for me to hold my position and drive to work with that in the windshield..i do have one more video though. top speed run in the LS.
