Faked Rx7 at speed digital image with custom rig

I made a custom rig for my m43 camera and 9 mm lens to take some fake Rx7 at high speed images.

Not made for a first attempt, planning a lot of changes the next time for a better outcome.

Check it out!

did you photoshop your rig out of the frame with a still image?

No, it didn't occur to me to take a shot of the car without the rig at the same angle and exposure. Would have helped a lot. Took more than an hour to remove the rig with cloning, healing and cut and pasting!

Thanks for the kind comment! I do try to keep her up and she's not looking too shabby for a 30 year old.

I guess there are not a whole lot of photographers in the group cuz I'm surprised nobody has asked me to give more details on how I did the shot?!!!!!

I'm not a photographer, but I'm guessing you moved the camera with the rig while the car sat still. Pretty cool pic.

The rig allows the camera to take a long exposure shot of the car while the car is rolling slowly. Since the camera is physically attached to the car, it travels with the car and keeps it in sharp focus, while the spinning wheels and background become blurred giving the impression of speed (even though I was pushing the car very slowly to minimize camera shake)

I used a 9mm lens which gave a field of view only large enough to see half the car. Looking at getting a wider lens for future attempts. The second must have is a very dark neutral density filter which allows very long exposures (10 seconds in this case) even during daytime sunlight.

The hardest part was removing the camera rig from the image, I would definitely place it differently the next time to make post processing easier.

hey man, whatever i can do to help

its more obvious now seeing the orginal picture of the edit, the trick will be getting the camera in the same position without it's rig on the car, and on the ground,.. but i could easily make a c shaped rig and bolt to it where the tow hooks are, and keep it completely out of the frame from the get go. but i have aluminum/steel welding fab ability...

your mount is nice because of the adjust-ability, a bolt on mount may on fit 2 or 3 locations of the front and rear...

i would put on in the rear, and put some of those twist in spring spacers to raise my front end like 2 inches and then do the shot again, make it look like it's launching.. you can get spring spacers that are quick to install and remove. but the front might be a pita... you could just stuff a block a wood..its only for the shot.. you could take it further and compress the rears abit, or put some heavy stuff in the rear to make it sink....just tossing more ideas.

This is awesome, I can't believe that you were only pushing the car.

nice Pshop work . esp recreating the Rt wiper arm
Ya Jim gives The Secret away: with a LOT of car mag shots "at speed" are actually done this way (slow movement, long exposure).

Maybe paint your rig a single color (like a green screen) and get the identical shot without the rig
then overlay it somehow to fill on the details that are green from the other pic. I've never done this
so its just me talking out my ***.

It's easier doing a view from behind because the rig is attached to the roof and the camera suspended upside down. None of the rig overlaps the body of the car or the ground and Photoshop alterations are a breeze!

They were from the Limited Edition series of Fb but unsure if they were OEM. But they are good since they are body molded.
