Thats gonna suck to repair......
And they're not really the same...... one (e-brake) your just pulling the rear locked up wheels with a front wheel drive, ...... and the other (powerslide) your frying the rear wheels off the car and drifting your course........ so one you actually slowing yourself down and the other you are accelerating and ruining your tires more efficiently... not creating a flat spot on your tires..... so it's actaully not really drifting.
Why do you think all you see in REAL drift comps are rear wheel drive cars and only rear drive cars...... Just throwing that out there, I'm not starting any fights or choosing sides.....

e-brake slide: when a person driving a FF car pulls and holds the e-brake, locks the rear tires, and slides the car around the corner.

powerslide: applying lots of power to a rear drive car (muscle cars do this best) around a slow corner, causing the rear tires to spin, and you slide around the corner. normally used to pull a quick u-turn.

drift: entering a corner at a decent rate of speed and using a flick, a quick pull of the e-brake to initiate the slide while using the REAR wheels to power through the slide, or simply overpowering the tires while at speed to slide the vehicle around a series of turns while trying to impress a panel of judges.

when iv done it it was always a combo of a e-brake and powerslide..... we've never done it your way. i used to "drift" FF cars and the way we did it was build up a decent speed, rip the e-brake and release and get a slide going while giving decent gas and we'd get decent controllable slides going. you may have to give a second or third rip to help change directions but you never keep it locked. its pretty popular over here. you kind of use the momentum or "power" of your weight and speed to whip the rear around and it works out pretty good.
sounds like he tryed that in a rear wheel which produces the power in back. its a retarded mistake and we both will learn something from it. sounds like he didnt know how it worked. and iv learned alot from my FF car crash, except mine was learned in my FWD Impreza after flipping it on the roof.
guess russians learn the hard way.

to me thats more of a burn out than a powerslide, im not all on the technical terms for these but thats what i see it as. iv always seen it as using the cars power(momentum) to slide the car around, and yes incorporating the e-brake. but im not going to start a war over some stupid terms.

and i apologize for losing it earlier, just dont appreciate myself or my fam members being insulted.

When used to change direction 180 degrees, that's properly called a "bootlegger," or a "smuggler's turn."

Midwest slang for it when I was young and stupid was "pulling a brodie," probably named after the "Brodie ****" that rodders used to put on their steering wheels to make it easier with the old low-rate manual steering boxes.

You can't really drift a fwd. they will slide. I've taken my old car over a hundred around a corner with no use of brake's Just gasin the hell out of it. you can control a slide pretty good. But you cant drift a fwd. its just not the same thing.

drift-to inter a corner at a high rate of speed and spinning your rear tires to angle your body. its a rwd thing.

Burn out can be done with either one but fwd drive burn outs do look a little on the gay side. a burn out consists of powering your drive tires to spin rather than catch traction.

a power slide can be done with eather. usually not a high speed activity. its sorta like pulling a brodie or flipping a bitch. also would be considered a fwd drift. can be done with brake power, or car power. It has no where near the control of a real drift though.

ouchhhh sucks i had a couple close calls in my fb spun out and ended 5 inches away from the guard rail too close.

same here. once, when i first got the car, going about 80 in a 25, i saw the stop sign, applied brakes... Car spun a 180 and stopped backwards, just barely missed the curb. I had warped rotors which caused the brakes to lock up at different times.

second time, coming down a wet hill at about 35, was kind of tired, used brakes instead of downshifting. started brake drifting, i just tried to apply the brakes and stop the car, backwards again haha. good thing no other cars were there! but yeah, when i'm drifting or just powersliding around a corner i rarely ever spin out.

I just don't get it. You say you loaned him your car after you were told that he "drifts real good"? I would consider that a very good reason to deny him the car.

And based on the above, it almost implies that you loaned him the car specifically for the purpose of drifting on the streets.

What I really don't understand is why you are surprised by the results of the choices that were made... All I can say is that I hope you learned something from all of this. I've made enough stupid choices in my past that I am now a certified genius.

Now see, to me, that isn't drifting either. Pulling on the hand-brake or "overpowering the tires" isn't what drifting is about. The slide should be initiated only by shifting the weight off the rear of the car. I believe there should be a horsepower limit and banning of hand-brakes ("e-brakes") in cars that compete in these so-called drifting competitions.

I don't let ANYONE drive my car apart from my brother, who also owns an RX-7.

Agreed, the term has become too much of a common word, misused 90% of the time.

In truth, I probably rarely ever drift. just low speed sliding, kept alive by throttle control.

I guess I'm just too afraid of the police!

i don't drift but the way i see it, you CAN'T "drift" a fwd, you can lock up the wheels and slide and hope your skills are good enough so you don't spin out. Power sliding is just a transfer of weight in the car caused by taking a turn at a higher speed than normal/required and being able to control it. and Drifting is the art of combining both, requires the guts of powersliding to take the turns at higher speeds, the skill to transfer the weight off the back wheels into the front, loosing traction, control speed, momentum, defy the laws of motion, hope you can control it, and looking good while doing it lol

i love power sliding, its so much fun just the feeling that the car is in breaking point all through out the curve that one wrong flick of the steering wheel and it will have you upside down in a ditch...i've also tried drifting and man, my hat is off to those guys, too much **** to keep in mind, controlling the gas, steering wheel, clutch, gear, rpm, taking care of the car, pleasing the crowd and still be able to keep in mind when the next turn is coming up...too much man, hopefully someday i can learn to do it.
