The rotary engine was actually first put into the NSU spider. NSU was later absorbed into what we know as Audi (both German car companies). After the not so great NSU spider the rotary technology was dispersed around the world to many car companies, the only company that stuck with it is Mazda.

So technically a German Designed engine in a German car.
I am sure he knew that. That's what he meant when he posted:

Bad night Friday night. Took Das to a local cruise in and on the way there I lost a apex seal on the front rotor, but we continued on. Two blocks away my birdcage support for the front of the hood contacted a huge manhole cover and folded it back, but didnt hurt the hood. Had an awesome time at the cruise in,on the way home we lost the front rotor completely. So this weekend has been one of taking out the old and in with the new 12a. Really didnt want to run this one as it has brand new oem rotor housings.lightweight rotors and carbon seals as I am not ready to put the supercharged bridgeport 12a in,oh well. we will see how this motor does on the street.

I was just passing along some rotary information that I though others would find interesting. I can't think of a better person to assume control. Sorry to hear about your bout of bad luck. Goes to show how these things a truly a labor of love that require a certin amount of regular tinkering. The casual observer only see's the fun "tip" of the whole iceberg.

Here is a few videos of Das Speedster out enjoying twisty roads and blazing whitewall bias ply tires.
