PE CTTs semi build thread

Some of you may have seen my car before,I don't post a whole lot but I'm often lurking. Anyway this is my car for those who don't remember ever seeing it.

I bought the car last year for $500 to use as a project. The car needs some tlc,the rear quarters were redone...with more bondo then needed, the paint is horrible up close and was painted over clearcoat, not scuffed at all.The car hasn't been drinen in 5 years.Anyway I've been playing around with things I can afford or have laying around for the car and decided to show you guys what I've been up to.

First stupid thing I did was think it was a good idea to get some aftermarket gauges i thought they would give the dash a cooler look so I did a mock up using some cardboard and electrical tape...yeah no check it out and see how bad it looked(don't pay attention to the electrical tape on the cardboard i wanted it to be black).

So i started the day with this.

And ended with...

Fized that today(also did the styrofoam fix for sagging shift boots, still need to trim it alittle)

Gutted the rear interior while pilling the storage bins to check the wheel wells found this on both sides

And gutted but messy

And last but not least tried my hand at tinting for the time using gila window film.turned out pretty good from what i can tell,it was a bit dark when I finished.
Sorry only a night shot so far

Thanks for checking this out so far, hopefully i'll be updating this often and i'll try, more pics of gutted interior rust and tint sunday.
Sorry it was so long!

are you planning on reinstalling the rear interior? would look so so much better! that car looks like it would make a nice stock driver.

as of right now there's no plans of reinstalling it,a lot of broken and pieces that for some reason don't fit even close to flush anymore(since the day i bought it).i'm keeping it all though incase i do happen to change my mind.I just love the look of gutted interiors,it'll look nicer one i get the sound deadening off sometime this month.
it's my project,i've got TII dreams, and i've got a lot of connections for paint and such, and have a lot of mechanically capable friends who will help me out. just have to get some funds going again and time, school is coming up again,so it'll be hectic soon.

First off, congrats on the car it will make an awesome project. Second, that rust you see is common. Mazda goofed on the installation of the rear upper control arm mounts. They allow water to get in and do it's dirty business, the results of which you see there. My cars drivers side is just like that. The plus side is any decent body shop can weld in new metal and properly attach the control arm mount so that doesn't happen again. Third thing, I can't tell for sure but it looks like you put the tint on the outside of the window. Your not supposed to do that. It is supposed to be applied to the inside. Putting it outside makes it too easy for rocks and dust and other debris to scratch it. You need to cut it out in the shape of the inside of the glass. Take your time and prioritize. At this point I would have the bodywork done, that way it's done and out of the way and you can work on gathering other parts while your doing the prep work. Good luck.

yeah i heard it was a common place for rust, that's what started the gutting frenzy.
as far as the tint goes it is on the inside of the window, but after looking at the pic again it really does look like it's on the outside haha. but it is on the inside because i didn't take pics till i was done haha.
yeah the body work will come, i'm getting my rocker panels made soon so i can get them on before the car goes to storage, annd then i'll be getting those wheel wells fixed.
