Chop top fb??

Had this thought of a chop top fb. Has anyone ever done it? Just for clarification, not a convertible but taking a couple inches out of the roof. I think it would be awesome!

I'm not sure I've ever seen it done.

It's not done for good reason: unless you're 4ft tall you're gonna have a major kink in the neck after riding in the car. Even if you drop the seats to the floor you'd still have to be 4' short to ride in there, and you'd still be uncomfortable.

I definitely wouldn't own one haha! I'm almost 6 foot tall. Getting in and out of an fb is already hard!I'm just wondering if it has ever been attempted

Yeah you'd have a really tight squeeze!

I'm 5'8" (with shoes on, more like 5'7" in reality) and I love the FB fitment - I can't imagine being any taller and squishing myself in there.

I'm curious if it's been done as well though, would definitely be an interesting looking car for sure.

Given the geometry of the rear glass, it'd be very difficult.

IMO, the height of the existing roofline is fine. Only change I'd make to the body lines would be to round the upper front corners a bit more, so the greenhouse doesn't look so square at the top when seen head-on.

Also very hard to do, but it would make the lines more graceful.

I'm sure chopping the top is nearly impossible

Very little is impossible; most things are just varying levels of difficult and expensive.

It's entirely possible the real question is, unless it will be a show only trailer baby, is it drivable and safe. SA/FB's sit low with an already low roof line, the seats are basically on the floor already and sit low enough stock even most modern hatch backs sit higher, next to mine a Yaris looks like a 4x4 and a 4x4 looks like a monster truck. Also a chop top can SERVERLY compromise visibility all around since now all the windows are smaller, usually by alot. After that is the CUSTOM windshield which is going to be painfully expensive I would guess, for the rear hatch and side glass perspex or lexan is doable as it would be for the door windows. After that is the fact that these are unibody cars not a 40 Chevy i. e. not a body on frame so you are making major structural changes to do this unlike the Chevy where it's more or less cosmetic. Lastly if you want to drive it is head room, I don't know about anyone else but, I have just enough, I'm 6' even and have stock high-back's. The seats are more or less on the floor.
Now I'm not saying it's not possible, more this is the reasons I have found as to why I wouldn't, mostly going back to the already extremely low roof line of these cars. If you do decide to be safe and post lots of pics, who knows could be cool.
