Ha sorry I didn't make that more clear. I definitely admire your cars and saved a few pictures for inspiration.

Went for my first long haul today to give her a tease run. Test run for some. All titled up after a flawless Texas inspection. On to the DMV where after a few cars experience has shown, preparedness prevails. Done! On down the road after paperwork is in order.

Car is mostly sorted, needs a few things tuned. Noticed the idle is at 1100 rpm' s. usually indicative of a prob, maybe lucky and can adjust, we'll see. AC needs some charge. Looks to be R12, no prob, got it. Need to find the leak though.

Hatch struts, no prob sourcing, need a break down for the pass side electrical for the wiper. No manual yet. Need interior door release reveales (plastic inserts behind pull handles). They are scratched. Other than that the joy stick for the factory stereo could use some cleaning or something. That may turn out to be a chore...

Still the tires remain elusive, no white letters for sure but even the right size black walls, what to do?

Lovely car, especially the interior, looks great!

Interesting that you've had all three generations. Would you care to give a comparison between the three?

Well, this is of course only one persons opinion, and though I currently have all three body styles of the RX-7 I would say that the only similarities they really have is the finicky odd winkle engines, increasingly hard to find parts and cult like following. Other than that the cars have carved out their own unique niche of followers, lovers, if you will of specific year body lines and folks that just think that a certain year rules over another.

As for me, I am partial to the first and third gen simply because I have spent the majority of my time behind the wheel of the first gen and I am forever impressed with the power and performance of the third gen. When set up right and not driving a worn out car it would be hard to beat any RX-7, but for the size and weight my little GSL-SE sure can cut some corners.

Not to leave the second gen FC out of the loop here, I got mine because when I was younger I always wanted one when I had my first gen. I didn't get the turbo so I can't say it's faster. It runs about the same but a bit bulkier (feels funny saying that, they're so smallcompared to so many other cars).

Third gen, by far the fastest with the twin turbos and like all rotary engines, everything you do jumps up the HP very quickly. Probably the largest following of these three cars. Having fun with mine while trying to keep it true to Mazda form and function since it's still low mileage.

So there is a penny's worth for ya...

I have a 1985 GSL-SE and one of the first things you should do is replace the fuel cap. Careless fueling is one reason the trim piece below the gas door degrades over time but as with any rubber seal they break down or deform over time and lose their ability to seal. With a full tank of fuel and some spirited driving you can wind-up seeping fuel past a bad gas cap seal. Same with the radiator cap too.

Good advice I'll look into that. Someone pointed out the rad cap wasn't stock anyhow. Any advice on the best way to re apply the rubber molding? 3M I assume.

I would check with someone with body work experience. I replaced my bad trim piece over 15 years ago when they were still available new at a reasonable price rather than trying to save it.

If I can't source the new stuff I bet I'm left with molding tape but I'll double check. To be honest here, I'm not sure if what I have is even stock, as far as the red pin stripe going down the middle of the molding. Might be someone's special touch. I've seen cars like this but not sure of the authenticity. Looks nice..
