Check out the rotor desk lamp!

Here it is guys! I made this quite a while ago, but just now got around to posting finished pictures of it. Cost me about $5 to make. I went to Goodwill and bought a couple of old junky lamps for parts. When I got home I gutted them and put a hole through the rotor. Used the spare parts to piece together a nice lamp. Then I got a new cheapy lamp shade from walmart for the top. Whaddya think?

This kind of ingenuity and creativity is what I love about the 1st gen section. All the rotor needs is a nice powdercoating.

Not as long as you'd think really. They are hollow so after you get going it's a pretty quick process. Maybe 20 minutes all told?

Uhh, Milton we've got some boxes and things that we're going to be moving in here, so if you could go ahead and move your desk as far back against the wall as possible that would be great, Mkay? Thanks!

Hahaha. One of my favorite movies of all time....

nice!! i like. is it held stable or is its weight the only thing holding it in place? how did you secure the top half to the rotor? man, i bet drilling through that thing was a biotch.

The top is held stable. See the big 5/8 bolts inside the rotor bearing? That's what holds the rotor to the base and the top to the rotor. I put bolts and sockets and washers on the pedestal for the bulb also to keep the look complete. It hides the pedestal for the bulb and adds to the look of the lamp at the same time.

Jamie,

Looks good. Looks pretty clean from the pic. Did you just clean it up or did you paint/powdercoat it?

I spent a good hour or two cleaning it up with some small flat screwdrivers, and a wirebrush. If I recall it spent several nights in the garage in a bucket of degreaser too. When I was all done I sprayed it with my favorite duplicolor wheel paint. That stuff sets up like concrete. It's almost impossible to chip off of anything. It's the best thing since sliced bread IMO...
