http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...#ht_500wt_1128

The guy doesn't give up

Relisted after no bids at $25K. Really? Gee....
NOTE this is a _starting_ bid - "reserve not met" = $15K WON't buy it... Betting reserve closer to $20K

Man, I mean I wish the SA was going for that much, but this guy must just have no foundation in reality.

On top of that, I have seen WAY cleaner SAs than that. The engine bay is nowhere clean enough to warrant 15K. I think that guy is trying to get the MSRP he payed for it back. haha.

I think that odo reading is a rollover and he's just trying to pass it off as original. I could be wrong though. The interior looks dirty but the steering wheel has virtually no wear on the leather. My FB has 115k on it the leather steering wheel is getting gnarly.

Well, that might be due to the SA steering wheel being rubber... Or the car could have spent most of it's life with a wheel cover on it.

I get the feeling that this guy is just fishing for valuation - - might not have a real intent to sell, but wants to establish 'market value,' maybe for insurance purposes.

If he was just out to get the MSRP back... possibly; that would be about $20,000 in 2008 dollars, adjusted for inflation.

The front license plate holder is bothering me - - it's a markedly different design than mine, and I'm pretty sure mine is stock. But why would a car with less than a thousand road miles have a replacement (empty) FLP holder?

Did the holder design change within the SAs?

Also, the rear hatch latch plate... the pic is too small to see clearly, but it doesn't look like the SA-specific plate, which had beveled edges rather than rounded, and had no logo on it.

Eh, we are a suspicious bunch, aren't we?

ok guys, look for the orig thread on this car $25,000 limited from when this was up last week the first time. we went over all of this stuff. As for the steering wheel it is a leather wheel it probably had a cover on it its whole life. 79s did have a different ft plate bracket just so happens to be the same as several older cars as well.

And as for staying off ebay I would think you guys would yell at me before yelling at Stu

We actually yelled at you both, but the sound just hasn't travelled all the way to you yet.

Originally, sticker for an LE was a little over 10K. Demand for Rex's in general was very high during the summer of 79 and some dealers would ask 2-3K over sticker for all their inventories. Even if the original owner paid over list, it wouldn't really matter now. The market is the driver.

This one just turned up on the West forum:

http://lowcostauto.org/webtemplate.aspx?iid=2459778

79, looks all original. 84k miles. $4000 "buy now." California car. Front end's a little rough but damn if the interior isn't in really nice shape.

I don't see why he can't sell it for that price? Sheesh, I could try to sell a booger for $1,000 on ebay.

Would 'I' pay that much, hell no. Would you pay that much, probably not. Would someone who acutally knows what the car is and the actual condition of the car is and could inspect the car to ensure that it only has 900 orginal miles pay that for the car, possibly. It does look pretty original and mint too me...

I don't see why everyone doubts the auction, and why start a thread about it...

Ya - amazing interior. But: no sunroof - deal killer IMHO, esp at $4K

**** I wish I could get one like that over here for 15K..... Remeber, here in Japan, they are rare, all of them had been crushed, or sent to kangaroo/kiwi land (joke guys) but seriously i paid 8K for mine and it had been modded with overfenders etc. I just saw one on the auction last month were the asking price was 1,700,000 yen which at the current yen to dollar makes for about 19K ad it still had about 20,000 Km's on it, granted it was one owner, non smoker, and stone stock down to the original floor mats but still if it is truly that low of mileage that would be the deal of the century around here. Oh and sorry guys shipping you low mileage ones is not an option...they are LHD...... RHD for the win
