Ended up with the Z instead. Can't say as I feel that I missed out on anything. I can get my dive gear in it, and I have probably 6" or more of unused headroom.

And it is faster - - almost 1.5 seconds faster to 60.
Thats what I'm talking about!!! How 'bout that new 370 Z!!! Mazda needs to seriously step up to make a machine to compete with the 370Z and Infinity G37 coupe!!!

I hope the new RX-7 offers way more than the current RX-8.

Must be some briefcase!

We can fit a weeks worth of groceries in either miata... or a few coolers... or 2 suitcases...

I had a 99 sport package Miata that I use primarily for autox before I built up my sa.
I thought that it was a great handling car as a matter a of fact I went to a Corvette club event with it one year and spanked every vette there except a heavily modifed zo6. you can call miata's girl cars if you like but they are definitly fun to flog around a autox course. and they do make fun winter cars with a hard top and a set of blizzaks.

I more or less traded my 91 FC for a 96 Miata, people were calling me crazy at the time. I drive the Miata 90% of the time, taking the GSLSE out for a spin from time to time if it's running well. The SE "feels" better, but the truth is the Miata is a better car in almost every way, and at an autocross I can drive the Miata much, much faster than I could with any RX7 I've ever owned. The only thing it lacks is the power of the GSLSE, but I have been tempted to sell the SE and use the cash to drop a turbo in it, making it much, much faster than the SE could ever possibly be without a T2 swap.

However, there is just this certain warm fuzzy feeling that I get driving a rotary (and my GSLSE in particular) that the Miata just can't replicate. I suppose you could drop a rotary into the MIata shell, but in my opinion that would turn it into a more refined first gen RX-7, it wouldn't really be a Miata anymore.

There isn't going to be a new RX7. This has been covered many times but they new 16X is going to be going into the 2011-12 RX8, from everything that has been released so far. Mazda will never make another RX7 nor would they likely make a another two-seater sports car. Especially in this day in age.

Going back to the miata issue, how much room does a miata have? I don't need much but I do like to carry my drumset around everyonce in a while. I've never tried putting it in my 7. I take it that a miata wouldn't come close eh?

Yeah, Miatas are hell on the track or at an autocross. But with some work and a few hundred bucks in suspension, a 7 can do just as well. The only Miata I fear at events is supercharged and very heavily modified and has race rubber about 4 feet wide per wheel. Bad ***....

So, maybe I have to work a little harder to get my 7 around the course faster than a Miata, but I look a hell of a lot better doing it. Besides, 7s are getting kinda rare, while Miatas are all over the place.

Call it an "RX-5 Rotata."

My memory is 6 years old, but I remember looking back there on the Miata and thinking, "Wow, that's tiny!"

To be perfectly honest, though, I can fit more cargo in the 1st gen than I can in the Z. The stock rear strut bar, and the concave outside shape of the 350Z hatch, conspire to make it just BARELY able to swallow two smallish bags of golf clubs (or one complete set of cold-water dive gear)... there's actually a diagram on the rear hatch that shows how to fit two golf bags in there, which I find a hilarious commentary on golfers.

The -7 has awesome cargo capacity for it's size.

Yes that "special feeling" is what the RX-7 does.... The Miata cannot "replicate" because all it can do is drain the testosterone from your SATCHEL.....which is your *****!

Dude, I know it is popular to call miatas gay, but really you are taking a bit far. If you can't appreciate an miata for what it is then you don't deserve to drive a mazda.

Leave it to a Texan to take things too far.

Way to prove your point with a valid arguement.

And Toyota MR2's are hairdresser cars that drain testosterone as well.........

I guess thats why I drive it? Too much testosterone? Im just to manly?

I love my car, but I have to admit.... Miata > FB in a performance standpoint. Unless you have driven both on a track or auto-x with similar mods, you can never admit how bad the FB suspension design is.

I drive a scooter, and what?

It has been in my sig over a year. There's something about efficiency and saving money that I just seem to like.

I used ti have a modified Yamaha R6. I couldn't restrict myself and they're so expensive to own when you're 21.

Plus, the scooter gets 70-80 miles per gallon. For me, that's about $5 every two weeks if I drive it almost everyday.

That wouldn't be enough for me. Over the course of the year you're only saving $130, and even as a broke *** college student I wouldn't drive a scooter for $130.

I know what you mean about riding a bike. I've been riding dirtbike since I was four, so it was natural to get a streetbike. I dunno man, they are just too much. I don't feel comfortable on a bike going highway speeds, and even a modest bike has enough juice to kill you much quicker than I would like.

I never drive it on the highway. I live 1-2 minutes from campus and about 5-10 min from work. Whenever I drive it to school I dont have to worry about parking cause I can park directly infront of whatever building I need to go into. It is also great to have for a second vehicle incase my truck is down. It saved me when my old FB got totalled and I didnt have anything else to drive until i bought my truck.

Mine is a 150cc and does 70mph easily, but I wouldnt ever drive it on the highway. I dont own it solely for the purpose of saving money. I am addicted to two wheels and this is BY FAR the most economical option to sooth that addiction. Maintenance is rediculously cheap, esspecially when compared to a super sport.

I will get another motorcycle eventually, but probably not until after college. I am not in any rush to get rid of the scooter though.
