Best looking and sounding exhaust for a 1st gen.

so i have the stock muffler w/ headers, but i just wana hear a lil more of the brap brap from my engine. what wuld be a good choice muffler and what looks still more stock and not ricer?

The trouble with exhaust components for our cars is heat. The rotary exhaust is more intense that the average boinger engine. So for longevity, the most success is had with mufflers that use stainless steel packing material, or ceramic, or both.

Pacesetter makes one, and most agree its terrible. One came on my 2nd fb when I bought it. Sounds awful.

Magnaflow makes a muffler that looks stock but nice and shiny. I actually used to have one, but it was too loud for my taste. Many use and like the Magnaflow.

Racing beat has one that is fantastic and is built like a tank. sounds good too. Quiet for some people's taste, but I like it. But is it pricey, nearly $300.

You can go with universal aftermarket ones. It is tough to find one will hold up and not be too noisy.

Recently I have been doing a lot of research on finding a relatively quiet aftermarket muffler, and I have found a few old threads with some success stories.

One person had good success with a little magnaflow straighthrough as a resonator and a straighthough borla xs (i think) for a main muffler. Sounded FANTASTIC. it was MosesX605's setup, but we never got an answer concerning longevity. I recently PMed him, but no response. The thread is years old.

Another person used an apexi world sport II with incredible results (a 2nd gen guy) but those mufflers cost nearly $300 (plus they are universal, so you might as well stick with the racingbeat setup, it bolt's right on)

I have heard good things about the dynomax super turbo muffler. Its cheap and sounds good on everything i have found a sound clip or video on. Even little 4 bangers. I have almost completely decided to get one. It doesn't flow as much as a straight through design, but metter than stock. I think they sound GREAT. But its universal so finagling is required.

So the answer is not easy. Maybe someone else with more experience with different exhaust setup's can chime in

if ur running stock port engine, they'll be no brap brap.

Or if you can't fab the Racingbeat setup is great. Aslong as you're not trying to break any HP records the RB exhaust works. I however am not a fan.

its not a stock port, just the stock muffler, the guy before me said it was raceported, but i didnt believe him, when i started it up, i culd tell it def wasnt, so im not sure waht it is, street or bridge maybe.

a bridge definitely will brap but with a streetport it will depend on the overlap. mine wont if i lean out the idle.

yeha, i have a brap, i just wanna hear more of it and still have the stock looking muffler or something better, i will look at the RB muffler and what bout the Black dragon?

i have a vid on youtube of mine with complete rb sp setup. i since removed the dual presilencer section to get more sound. maybe some day i'll get with jesus and do an in and out of it.

I'm using a dynatec split flow as a resonator and I really like how it sounds at low RPM. Its very bassy, almost WRX sounding. The rear muffler (fart can, nothing more) doesn't do anything however.

That is a cold start, so its a bit more raspy then it is when it warms up.

I'm going to switch to the racing beat universal 2.5'' muffler. Anyone have some clips of that one?

Finally got my new muffler. Pics and videos in a bit. Its waaay more mellow down low, and sounds pretty sweet up top.

ill be running a stockport rb header with 2 1/2 inch piping to a vibrant 2 1/2 inch inlet muffler (fart can). these mufflers seem like pretty decent quality from what ive seen. ill try to post a vid next week when i get it all bolted up. its not a dd so i really dont care about volume but if its too raspy and high pitched ill add a resonator. but which brand idk yet

LoL at the vid.... I waiting for ever for you to come back and get the camera and then when you you had to hit the front light to turn it on made my day...Thanks for the laugh . Nice improvement on the exhaust sound.
