TX aftermarket seats

i bought a 82 black gs for 700 bucks and after ive done a full tuneup, brakes, clutch etc.. im ready to start on the interior. its not 2 bad to start with. its got decently new carpet and a new dash cover. the sunroof is redone and calked in terribly, the seats are destroyed with seatcovers to hide the metal and foam, and the interior panels are kinda faded but all there. looking to paint them, put some aftermarket seats in, and get the door panels redone. has anyone had experience with some reclining race buckets? what seat brackets should i buy that work best? or any style of seat work best for fitment? would like it to not be trial and error and waste money. also is there any way possible to remove that stainless over the back of the roof before i paint it? and what holes and things will need to be filled if i remove it? i prefer the clean look of not having it back there. any advice would be appreciated

I can't help with the stainless band , but I do have after market seats in my sa. I bought a set of Corbeau Forza seats and the brakets as well. they are not reclining but they do make reclining seat as well.

it's possible to make anything fit with the right fabrication know how(or the ability to figure out how) to make it work.

well i figured that... i was just curious to whether i could just get the seats.. take my seats off of the stock brackets and somehow make it work. by welding it or just drilling new holes for the aftermarket seats. or if it would just be too different to work

Find FC seats. They drop right in.

Do you have pictures of your Corbeau brackets? I have aftermarket reclining seats in my sa, and they sit a little higher than stock. So I wanted to either make my own brackets to bolt the seats right to the frame, or buy the corbeau bracket set.

ya im not really wanting the fc seats. wanting something brand new and ive found some decent priced aftermarket ones. gotta redo all of the interior so i might as well get brand new instead of used. corbeau is really the only ones that have seat brackets and they are 89 a piece so i was hoping to fab up something... still anyone have any idea about the stainless across the top of the roof and whats under it if i remove it?

if ur referring to that section of the targa band, just the roof is under it. now i don't really know how it's attached to the car, i've never owned one.

I think that the targa band is actually just screwed into the sheet metal.

But anyhow, here are some photos of my seats. The originals were suffering from sun damage so I went with the Bomz.

They were pretty cheap at aboout $300.00. I didn't like the white lettering, so I just used some black dye on it. Now it's not so obtrusive.

To get the driver's side to fit, I had the local muffler shop weld these tabs to the original slider. The passenger side was more challenging though as the slider has an offset due to the proximity to the tranmission tunnel. I had to order a bracket and mounted it without the sliders, so the passenger side is fixed.

Here is the result, I think it looks pretty good. These seats are very comfortable and supportive, but they are not very high quality. The plastic inserts in the headrest area had to be reglued. And the seats make alot of noise, they are very creaky. When I bought them I was on a tight budget, if I had to do it all over again I would go with something better. The Corbeaus are pretty cool. The FC seats are also a good choice. Recovering seems to run about $500.00-$600.00 for a pair.

How it looks now with my new Momo wheel.

I have recaro speeds in my car that someone bought and recovered for a porsche. They are black leather and suede.

The driver side mounted up no problem, still need to find a way to mount the passenger front.

I wish more companies did make rails for these cars, the drivers side is easy to make, but the passenger side is a pain. Corbeau is one of the only companies making rails I believe.

Just get a passenger side mount. All the passenger requires is a grab handle, not the choice to slide fore and aft.)))

Those Recaros look awesome.

the driver side slider bracket off of you stock seat is an easy mod. but the pass seat slider sits on the trans hump which is the hard seat to do, brcause the seat itself is angled. thats why I just bought the bracket.
I bought the pass. seat for my car from a local dealer (soloracer.com) for a really good price because it was returned and it didn't fit in someones elses car, and corbaeu did want to pay to ship it back. soI figured the money I saved on the seat I would spend on the slider.

btw soloracer.com is a local dealer who sells seats, harnesses, helmets, etc. to the solo community. if you need any thing Brett is really a good guy to deal with.

In reference to the stainless targa band; it is attached with 4 screws into the sheetmetal on the top. I believe it has two on each side in the door frame and somewhere around six around the back by the hatch. You will need to plug the holes with something. The car does look alot better without the band, but there is some work involved in removing it because of the holes created.
