^^apparently you may have missed the updated pics, lol. the car is roadworthy with a full interior and is back to 100% bone stock and super enjoyable.

some of today's progress. these pics do not include the removal of the carb and replacement of the base plate and the discovery of the vacuum leak. i didn't take pics of that yet.

here's a pic of the old driver's seat. passenger seat wasn't much better:

pic of the SE seats before they were cleaned:

pic of the SE seats with their first cleaning and now installed:

installed a front mazda logo:

car is running good. the only issue that i'm having is that is terribly SLOW..it almost feels as if the secondaries are not opening when the accelerator is floored. i'll have to pop the air cleaner top and take it for a drive to confirm. based on that i'll either convert to mechanical secondaries or fix the vacuum operated secondaries...or if they are oopening i'm going to have to figure out what the heck is arye...

got the car running very well today. i rebuilt another carb and replaced the carb that was keeping the secondaries from opening. now, smooth sailing and the car is actually pretty quick as far as a 12A goes! the only mod is a port matched and smoothed intake manifold. and it was port matched to the gasket so not much was taken out. at any rate, figured i'd share some pics of the car from today:

new carb ready to go in:

after the succesful test drive:

installed a glass moonroof:

the SE door panels that will match the SE seats that are in the car. i plan on installing them this weekend:

couple random pics:

ah yes, the new strut top nuts, good eye! this will turn into a restoration like the GS/SE so you will see piles of new oem hardware, lol. there are a couple other new items you spotted the cad plated nuts and bolts on the engine when it was in its clean and re-seal phase!

i originally wanted to put the SE door panels and the seats in the GS/SE but the GS has manual windows and i'd have to convert to power windows in order to use those door panels which sucks. i originally thought about using the seats and just the fabric from the SE door panels in the GS but i think the fabric may be different.

Nice work Dave!! btw the se that I looked at feel thru after I put the car on my lift and started looking at it from front to back. a combo of rust, trashed suspension bushings and everything leaking ( rear diff, trans, oil pan, power steering and even the FMOC). I shot him an offer of $800 and he said he would think about it. never heard from him again.

yeah it IS a lot of work to convert to power windows, i dunno if i would have done it either, but i think i like the idea.

ok, as promised, her are pics of the new SE door panel fabric pieces installed. i used my original GSL goor panels, removed the GSL fabric and installed the SE fabric into the GSL door panels. the SE door panels were kinda nasty and were not in as good of shape as the GSL panels:

issue i'm still battling..any time the key is in the on position, the temperature gauge maxes out. the issue revoilves around the capacitor somehow. the 12A capacitor went bad and the wire snapped. the coolant temp and the oil pressure gauges maxed out. i installed a capacitor from an SE and the oil pressure gauge works fine but the coolant temp gauge still maxes out..strange:

the temp gauge going to hot with the switch on engine off is a normal. the old school rx's did the same thing.

of all of the RX-7's that i've owned (30 in the last 11 years) this is the first time that i've seen a temp gauge do this. it maxes out with the engine running or the key in the on position.

it shouldn't be..it was working fine before the capacitor wire broke. i'll double check the wire going to the sender this afternoon. i get off of work at 7am..been working since 7pm yesterday and i think i'll catch some sleep before i get to the garage today. i'm wondering if there's a difference between the 12A capacitor and the one from the SE..

offhand i'd say no, but it would be worth it to check
