the engine is now ready to go in the car. that will happen today. got the engine finished up yesterday and here are the pics:

installed the exhaust manifold and heat shield:

installed the acv:

installed the air pump:

rebuilt the slave cylinder, equipped it with a ss hose, and installed it:

installed the rats nest and wiring harness:

final product ready to go in:

when the engine is in i'll install new heater hoses, and add the plug wires and finish the small details. here's hoping that the compression results don't lie and the thing fires right up! i will be updating this thread more later today with more pics and videos should the install be successful!

well, great news, IT RUNS!!! not extremely well but it starts and revs. timing has to be set and the carb really should be rebuilt. had a few snags here and there but the engine is in and may be driven as early as tomorrow..i need to sind the bolts for the driveshaft though..somehow they didn't come with the car when i bought it back. here are a few pics of today's progress:

the start of the day for the 85:

and the end of the day tucked away safely next to the 80 LS:

a quick video of the engine running. keep in mind that the timing has not been dialed in and the carb has seen better days:

yeah, the wing is pretty scummy..it was there when i bought the car and i would think that it has been there since close to new...its only in place so that it can fill the holes that mount it.. when i paint the car the spoiler goes.

the car is still at my inlaws shop. i plan on driving it home today. i'm facing a few issues that i will address. the secondaries are not opening..which is no problem for the 20 minute drive home. the oil pressure gauge maxes out..tried two different senders with no change. and the coolant temp does not work..

here are a couple videos.the engine runs well but has an od idle and vibration that i've never heard..throttle sticks a little. i've got some work to do but for now, here is a video to start and any help regarding the issue would be appreciated:

got the car home this afternoon. drove it 18 miles from my inlaw's shop to my place. drove okay..the engien bucks at certain throttle positions..its a slight bucking but i can feel it..secondaries dont seem to be opening under load..when revved from idle i can hear them but not under acceleration..weird..the car is really sluggish because of this... got the gauges working today..that was a big accomplishment. here are the current pics of how the car sits in my garage:

thanks Sean! i think tomorrow it'll be back to the drawing board with the carb. i'll rebuild another spare that i have and see if there's any change in the running condition with that carb. the engine runs ok but the throttle sticking and strange vibration at idle are issues that i've not dealt with in a long time and i want to rule the carb in or out.

a lot of progress has been made. i have the dash out and i repaired it last night. it'll go back in today. while the dash was out i also reinstalled the front carpet section that the previous owner took out. i found a large vacuum leak at teh carb base plate.. i'm thinking that the base plate is warped. i have taken some pics of the process thus far and i'll post them up some time today.

i'll post pics of them later today....they are horrible..the fuzz from the driver's seat in worn away on about 1/2 of the seat and the driver's seat smells like cats.... i had the seats out when i got it and i found a cat sleeping on the driver's seat when i untarped them..they were stored indoors and the cats found a good sleeping spot.. the SE seats could use a good cleaningthough but they'll be in tonight

Wow

It seems you might have some work ahead of you but it will all be worth it, Good Luck man!!!

QUOTE=mazdaverx713b;9631783]i recently reaquired this car off of a fellow forum member. i sold it to him about a year ago with a bad engine (i blew a coolant hose on the highway and overheated it) he bought it with the intentions of making it a track car. i got it back a month or so ago and i went out and screwed around with it the other day. it is as you see it, with the only new addition being the steering box and column. i have all parts to make it complete except for a good 12A. the nice thing is that its a GSL. i'm not sure when i will get around to restoring it.. i have a week off of work starting tomorrow and i've got some things to do before i get started working on this. i guess my plans for now are going to be to reinstall the interior and bench test the two 12A's that i've got laying around and pray for compression. i'll toss up some pics of the car before i sold it. this will efinatly be another restoration project similar to my 85 GS that is now powered by a 13B..but this will remain a 12A i think. here are a few pics:
