84 Rx7 Cigarette Lighter

Why doesn't my lighter not power/energize my new cell phone holder?

Is there a design reason it won't? Do I have to change it to something else?

The first step is making sure you cigarette lighter is fully operational. Often newer technology in our older cars will place too much of a draw on the circuit and you will blow the fuse that protects the circuit. Check to make sure you have source voltage at the cigarette lighter socket. If no no source voltage is present, check the fuse and ensure its intact. If you have source voltage to the lighter socket, try the charger in another vehicle with a known good lighter socket to see if it powers up. Confirm that the component is in good working order.

i experienced this many yrs ago with plugs for gps. i'm thinking some aren't molded quite right. maybe back then, lighter sockets weren't all made the same.
