83 bottem dash removel problem

hello I am having a problem removing my bottom dash from the rx7. Because I am swaping carpet. I looked every where on hear and found nothing. The problem I am having is geting the screw behind the plastic part behind the steering wheel. How can I get the the screw? here is a pic of where it is.

Take the plastic pieces off the steering column first, and then the screw should be easily accessible. When I took my interior apart, thats what I did and didn`t have any problems.

It comes off in two pieces. There should be a piece on the left and on the right of the steering column held together with three screws (if I remember correctly).

they are 2 pieces. 2 screws attach them together and 2 or 3 screws attach them to the column.

Once they are off you will be able to get to the last screw in the dash.

Nothing is glued together from the factory.

I got down to this point and back together using only a standard philips head screwdriver and a 10 + 12mm socket.

Just have a look around and you will figure it out.

You may have to remove the center console section as well to get to the part you want as all the sections of the dash sort of interlock together...

Keep exploring and take it slow so you don't break anything.

Cam...

Inside the lower center dash is a U shapped bracket. That bracket bolts to the tranny tunnel, the console bolts to that. Remove the bolts, pop out the bracket, will need to bend the console steel a tad to clear the alighnment pins, then the carpet can be slid out from under.
