6al-2 install issues
6al-2 install issues
Referring to my last post. I bought the a 6al-2, 2 msd blaster 2 coils and was able to get it installed and the car runs, just not great. I have basically “upgraded” the trailing coil and leading coils and have the msd box running of the leading coil only. I do not have the 2 step wired up yet but the problem is when driving, it seems like the car is running rich and sputters real real bad. The carb tuning is moderate and doesnt seem to do much of a difference for when this breaking up happens. Also the timing was the same as before the install so not sure why or where this hesitation is coming from. Any thoughts?
Edit: the car is an 80gs stockport if that helps

I did check earlier and got lights through the timing gun on the leading 1 plug, only Trailing 1 plug. Even though before this whole thing with the stock ignition, I would get very intermittent flashes or sometimes none at on the trailing side and the leading side was perfect.
Strange, I have the symptom you describe when I hit the limiter of the MSD and the leading are not firing anymore, engine is running only on trailing.
If your gauge cluster is showing rpms, trailing ignition is working (it is taking the signal from trailing ignition), it can only mean you have an issue with leading ignition - or you touched the timing somehow.
I would :
1) Check with timing light both Leading 1 and 2
2) Check completely my wiring diagram for the MSD and if you modified correctly the J109 ignitor [if you have it on the SA - not quite sure, mine is an FB].

You are not using the stock ignitors at this point correct? Also the 80 SA dizzy signal wheel does not put out a very good signal for aftermarket ignition setups. See my thread about the TFIDFIS setup I did. Not same as yours but I had to use an FB dizzy to make it work without breaking up.
