Nice. I hope once restored it goes on the classic show tour with other historic rotaries.
Now that I think about it I don't think they take any RX-7s around with them. The TWR Spa car is privately owned and the IMSA cars stay at Mazda USA.

they used to bring the 79 IMSA GTU car out, but haven't for a few years. it supposedly was in for an engine rebuild, but hasn't resurfaced

just to close the loop on this, the car is done! the owner did the paint, and Mr Amemiya did the engine/chassis

I never noticed the Nike sponsorship before. A prelude to Renown?

so this thing was the gold and blue Jun car, and then the Pink livery and then the white. i guess the guy bought it to make some fun trackday toy with, and then realized it was THE Lemans car, and then restored it.
i'm not so sure about the story though, Mr Amemiya went with them to pick it up, and there was lots of press coverage for that, it seems like they knew about it already?
