1st Generation CAD Model

Hey all,

Would anyone happen to have a CAD model of a first generation RX-7? Solidworks or IGES file format would be preferable, although I could make other formats work.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning a pretty big project, and it would help a great deal to be able visualize how all the components would fit together without having to measure every dimension of my car.

I called Mazda to ask for the blueprints, but I was turned down. Apparently they don't like handing those out to people...

Thanks,
Andrew

CAD model

Cool to hear about someone else interested in the same thing. I Have a CAD model that I found on the web, but it isn't perfect. I actually downloaded it as an .lwo which I guess is just a graphic, but through a series of imports and exports managed to get it into SolidWorks. I checked the scaling on it, and it is close from the best I could tell, but the thing that really bugs me is that it is composed of something in the order of 5500 triangular surfaces. I have been trying to figure out a way to get SolidWorks to recognize the verticies and plot the points at all the corners so that I can then go through with a series of splines and lofts to make a much more accurate model, but I don't have the right version to do it, and consequently have been working on it by hand. If you want a copy of the model, I can send it to you as a .wrl, but the .iges and .sldprt files that I have are way too big to fit in an email... I should also mention that the model as it stands is purely only useful as an outline for creating the body shape. There is nothing in the file pertaining to materials or framework or anything if you are planning on doing any finite element analysis... But anyway, let me know what you think. If you want a copy of the file, shoot me an email (dmcimon1@wpi.edu), and I will send you one.

P.S. If you wanted to talk about your project a bit, and what you plan to do, I would love to hear about it...
