I am replacing my waterpump on a 12A and in the process have bead blasted the water pump housing and thermostat housing. Does anyone know what the factory color is for the water pump housing? The thermostat housing was a glossy black, but the waterpump housing was fairly oxidized so it was hard to tell the exact color.

The water pump housings were painted black.

Semi-gloss would probably look best, glossy might be a bit much.

 

They are both a low gloss black. I use a matte black when I paint them and it turns out nice. The key is making sure the metal is clean, dry, and rust free.

 

its a glossy black. its not like outside the car glossy paint, but its pretty shiny for a water pump.

Thanks everyone! I ended up painting the thermostat and water pump housing satin black. Not a perfect factory match but close enough.

 

I'm sure it looks good being Satin Black. Honestly almost any shade of black is better looking than rust and corrosion.

 

Is the inside of the water pump painted. I might paint the ouside red to match the car, or gold, or yellow or white (tribute to James Garner in Grnad Prix 1967) just for the hell of it
