12A SP sale price idea

I have a 12A large street port that can out of my 83 that I'm parting out. The motor was built by Rotary Warehouse and they did a great job. I have about 30k on it. The motor cost me about $2500 for the short block plus I added a RB oil pan baffle, FC water pump and housing, oil pan, oil to water cooler, and crossmember. I have dyno sheets on the motor.

What do you think it is worth? I'm not in a rush to sell it.

Depends on why you're selling it, and how brave the buyer is, and if they ever had a chance to see it running.

Used engines out of cars, even with paper trails behind them, are a risky buy. I bought one last year from a guy with good reputation, based on the testimony of a couple other forumers that the unit was in good shape except for a coolant leak.

On teardown, the motor was complete toast internally, had been clearly run without oil pressure & on pure water, then left to sit (all plates scored thick enough to catch a fingernail, seals shot, bearings shot, e-shaft shot, 1/2" of rusty goo in the coolant jackets.) Virtually nothing out of this $400 motor I bought is useable - - the rotors aren't even of matched vintage, and have different recess shapes.

Yet it had good 'provenance,' and it spun freely and produced decent audible whooshes.

Not saying at all that your motor is in any way inferior at all - - the problem you face is that the buyer just can't know anything about it when they buy it, so they are taking an enormous risk.

The price you get will reflect that risk, unless the buyer knows you or knew your car when it was running.

I see where you are going.

The only reason I'm selling the motor is because I got a much nicer car and I'm going the restoration route. The car this was in needed a ton of body work from years before I bought it. I only have room for one RX-7 so I've been parting the car out.
