12A Freak housing - what IS this??

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAZDA-12A-ROTOR-HOUSING-GENUINE-PART-RX2-RX3-RX4-RX7-ROTARY-WANKEL-10A-12A-13B-/151182394789?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item23332c45a5

Clearly the seller has no idea what it is, based on their description.

PS; unless you have a peripheral-port engine, the rotor housing never has an intake port. They're on the irons.

Weird looking thing, though. Note the additional dowel-pin hole complete with o-ring land, inboard of the 'normal' one.

The three small exhaust ports were probably to provide more support for the early apex seals.

yep! we didn't get these in the US, as we had the REAPS system, and normal looking ports right from the start.

It was an oil breather. Mazda eliminated it in '74.
