I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but does anyone definitively know whether or not if this accessory is removed there would be holes in the bodywork underneath? Can it be removed with no bodywork required?

 

There are two different styles of Targa bands. The dealer-installed one-piece unit like pictured, attached with adhesive tape. The "Targa 7" band was an aftermarket three-piece unit which attached with screws. You removed the side pieces, revealing the mounting screws for the main, top piece. If not installed correctly, it wasn't unheard of to have the adhesive ones lift off at high speeds. As long as you don't scratch or dent the body prying it off, the adhesive tape mounting should be able to be removed without damage to the paint.
