if i take an get me a factory oil pan an cut it 1.5 inchs all the way around an shallow the pic up the same would the motor be ok. i understand it would be less oil capasity but ill just change it more often?

cooling will likely be affected by decreased capacity as well and i think that's more important.

 

just curious... but why?

The pan sits above the the cross member anyways, what kind of project you got going on that you need to do this?

also I know it costs a lot but you can always go dry sump

 

Well I have a 70 bug an the oil pan sits low an everytime I pull off hard in the car it hits I've raised it up now I need it shorter

 

ahh okay, that would make more sense.

 

if you make the pan shallower, i would add another oil cooler, or something to keep the oil capacity.

it should be ok, the Rx8 has a really shallow pan, and 2 big coolers

 

Would a rx8 oil pan bolt up on a 12a?

 

its going to be too long, although the width is right, and some of the bolt holes will line up

you can always hack up an extra oil pan you got laying around and see. Its gotta take a half hour to remove the engine from that thing I imagine.

 

What if you just widen the oilpan, that way you keep the capasity. But space might be an issue?
