Anyone have any experience with the F1 Racing clutch?I see they are cheap and you probally get what you pay for.Any imput would be great,let me know .Thanx Chad

They're junk. Run away. My dad had one in his 85 RX7, went to ***** quickly.

ive had my f1 racing stage 3 unsprung for almost 2 years now and i ******* love it. the throw out bearing was garbage though (source a nice oem koyo/imc throw out bearing).

i just had my transmission out recently (due to an internal bearing inside the transmission going bad). the clutch still looks like new, it has about 20k miles on it since i daily drive my fc and used to do pizza delivery (it's great to get paid to drive your fc lol)

it's sooooooo grippy! i love it. it'll probably last another 3-4 years easy (however m planning to change to a turbo trans soon and will be buying an f1 stage 3 unsprung for the turbo tranny) my na one will probably end up in my brothers na fc.

i say if your planning to buy an aggressive clutch and are on a tight budget then go for it, but spend another 430 for a koyo/imc throw out bearing from mazda/eastern imports/mazdatrix.

my clutch was $160 shipped and i am super satisfied

I bought an xtd clutch and I told him "I heard these are junk" he said if I have problems send it back. Super grippy! I can chirp 2nd and 3rd. In a na street port. The seller rated the stage 3 sprung at 260 hp im nowhere close to that.

 

Buy an Exedy. I trust my money with them more than anyone else. Clutches have been Exedy's main business for decades. Btw, chirpping through the gears on each change is not ideal. Smooth power transition is what you want. This isn't a formula one car, we can't have stupid fast shifts and no wear on the equipment like them.

 

You get what you pay for. Theyre not the best quality, I wouldn't cheap out on something like a clutch. Its not something you want to change more than once, although it is easy to do an RX7 clutch.

 

My brother had/has one in his Z. It was holding strong. 6k launches at the track. We disassembled the car and the clutch ended up getting set in a 5gallon bucket of water for roughly 4yrs. few months back i pulled it out of the water, hit it with a grinder . Will see how she does lol

 

Pick whatever disc you want but run the stock pressure plate.

 

^Why do you suggest the stock pp over others?

 

Chad didn't say anything about his HP. If the engine is making close to stock power levels than the stock PP works fine.

 

I'm not sure what kind of hp,hks evc boost controller,(running 10psi),rtek 1.7 w/ 720 secondaries,3" down pipe,cat delete,2 1/4" duals,k&n in a stock air box.I do a fair bit of 1/4 mile around here but it is my daily driver all summer long.Let me know what you think.Thanx Chad

 

I'd install a stock clutch kit. Isn't that what you were running? If it is, then think about how long it lasted. Nothing makes a car less fun to drive than a heavy pressure plate. The added pressure causes the stock master and slave cylinders to wear out quickly as well as the throw out bearing. They're a bitch to drive in traffic, parallel park, launch on hills...etc. The overkill clutch disc often installed with the heavy pressure plates are murder on the flywheel and pressure plate friction surfaces resulting in the removal of the flywheel for resurfacing or replacement with the next clutch change.

 

+1, couldn't have said it better myself. I just don't understand why people feel the need to instal 6-puck racing clutches and super stiff pressure plates on mostly stock daily drivers. I could understand going to a twin-disk setup, but then again it really wont do much for a street car. (The only reason why I condone twin-disks are because when I drove my friends Evo.8, he had an Exedy twin-disc and it drove beautiful for the 500 hp that it made. Really easily streetable)

 

I had one on my FB with a 13BT streetport. It lasted less than 6000 miles.
