Hi, I just purchased a greddy water temp gauge and before i install it i have a question for any of you with aftermarket temp gauges out there. Is it possible to have both the stock and aftermarket gauges working?? I was hoping to be able to have both so i can compare. If there is a way can someone possibly tell me how? Thanks for your time.

the new one should come with a new sender. You need to tap a hole in your thermostat housing(I just used the hole behind the coolant filler cap. ) Your factory sender will remain intact. so yes you can use both.

 

That is typically how people have it set up. I put the sending unit in a tapped hole on the lower front portion of the thermostat housing, though.

 

i got it tapped in the hole too...and yes i have both stock gauge and greddy gauge as well

Got the pfs and stock guage runnin together. It's actually interesting to see how much time there is between when the stock guage says the car is warm and the aftermarket. Probably a good 5 minutes.

 

speaking of....


What is the average operating temperature? My gauge (greddy) is in celsius. Its hard for me to tell if i am at an ok temperature or not. Thanks guys

I also have a greddy temp gauge, and at low boost city driving, I run about 82-85C, and on the I-95 at 80-120mph, the temp would be from 90-100C. I checked a thread on what F temps are normal before the engine pops, and did the Celcius convertion, and the temps I list are about right. I set my warning light to 100C which gives me plenty of time to adjust my driving before I reach 110C (230F= likely engine damage).

Also, I still have the stock temp gauge working, and it was apparent immediately how worthless it is for accurately displaying temp.

If you run 90-100C in normal driving on hot days, I would suggest turning the A/C on because the fan will decrease the temp. I keep the A/C on just for that purpose. In fact, on hot days, I have idled for 15mins with the fans on, and the temp stayed at a solid 82C. I turn off the A/C and idle, and the temp continuously rises every few seconds.

 

you can also tap into the radiator tubing.... just get a piece of pipe the same size, weld in the right size bung, and replace the chuck o stock pipe with your new stuff... this allows you to add an aftermarket gauge w/o drilling & tapping any part of your engine.

 

hmmmm....i wonfer if my car can handle heat or the gauge is broken. The gauge was dropped during installation and a dent was made on the bezel. I dont know if it was hard enough to mess up the readings. THis is what i have read today (1st day with gauge)... During low boost city driving it showed 95-105 + or - about 5 degress celsius. During highway or cruising situations it stayed around 90. THen at night, on the interstate it stayed steday at about 90 to 95ish celsius. But one other thing to consider....the heat down here is unbearable. I live very near New Orleans, LA and lately the heat index has been over 100 degress...(farenheit of course! ) Anyways...what do you guys think? Is it the gauge? or is it really that hot?? thanks alot!
