Fram, I have always used it, my father always used it. I usually get the x2 or whatever the hell it is. (the more expensive one) I am sure some will think its crazy but ****, I only use it for 3000miles then throw it away. With good oil, I don't think it really matters.

EGADS NO, Fram is one of the worst...

you should use the stock Mazda filter or the Mobil 1.

here is a link (again) for those of you who are stuck on useing the crappy cheap filters and for those who can't search on this website for the answer to this same question a dozen times:

i know on a T2, Castrol GTX 20w50 is what 90% of people agree on for oil. i would say use Castrol GTX 10w30 for an N/A. as for a filter, i would say OEM or K&N, but i'm sure a Mobil 1 filter would be excellent as well.

And once again in a rotary 10W30 should only be used in the climates that are under 75F and above 10F. It should never be used in temperatures above 80F or premature engine and oil failure may occur.

Don’t you guys read the owners manual or even that little sticker under the hood???

No wonder rotaries have a bad rap for reliabilty in some peoples minds… using the wrong oil and filters is a sure way to blow one up.

Anyway 20W50 should be used at temps above 20F

I use castrol 20w50 oil. I usually use a Pure1 filter. Fram is BY FAR the WORST filter to use. NEVER EVER USE FRAM!! They say that the fram filters the best, this may be true. But it is due to all the **** that they pack the filter with. Im suprised any oil can get through there at all, much less flow well enough to maintain a descent oil pressure. Fram sucks, stay away!!

ven't really done much research on oil filter. I have owned toyota since I was 16 and wasn't going to spend the money on fancy filters. You can feed those ******* sand. hehehe I guess I used them because my dad, but as the article state back in the day they were good! 60-70's. I'll be switching. And I do use the damm search feature. I was expecting a link because it said here's the link. Jeezzz!

20W50 would be fine anytime that the weather is above 20F.

however at -30F you are limited to only 5W30, but that should be changed as soon as the temp gets above 30F.

Based on the oil study that I posted (http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-overview.html) it should be safe to use Mobil 1 or Amsoil, but because of the high flash point of the Redline (500F + or - 5F) there might be issues. The only saving grace on using the Redline is the low ash level.

But the zero zinc amount, suggests that both the Mobil 1 and Redline should not be used in engines with any significant wear.

To quote:
A level of .11% is enough to protect an automobile engine for the extended [3k to 7k miles]oil drain interval, under normal use. Those of you with high revving, air cooled motorcycles or turbo charged cars or bikes might want to look at the oils with the higher zinc content.
