Job: What would you do?
Hey everyone, i need your help! I have a great job right now at a local Napa parts store where i have been for the last 4 years working the parts counter. I now have the opportunity to go work for Mazda as a assistant parts manager. I know the people at the dealership and They are great! The problem i'm having is making my mind up. Has anyone been in my shoes, leavin a parts store to go to a dealer? Is this a good idea? I only have tonite to make up my mind so any input would be appreciated.
yeah man....I don't even see the reason for needing to choose.
go for the new job as parts manager!
then be nice to those of us who buy really old parts and don't put up a fuss
when you gotta bust out the "microfilm" to find parts. lol

Lol. The more i think about it the more i want to do it! You only live once. Ya i forgot about the good old "microfilm". lol. RacerJason, i dont know if you remember, but you introduced yourself to me when you saw my white FC a couple of years ago at Mosport. I was camping there for ALMS weekend.
Companies like Napa get bought out and turn hands all the time. The dealership will have a management "team", where some place small like Napa has "A" manager, and if he is a dick (or his replacement is), then you're screwed. Besides, what looks better on a resume for the next step, "Assistant Parts Manager" or counter lackey (no offense!) from Napa. I'm sure Rich Christensen will think the dealer has some "good stuff" too....

Nice, coming up for the Victoria Day/May 2-4/Trans-Am/World Challenge weekend? We'll be camping at corner three as usual. Just look for a couple 7's.

Just a update. I put my 2 weeks in 1st thing when i got to work. One big problem, i was offered a lot more money to stay at Napa!! Now i dont know what to do. I have untill lunch to make up my mind.
Thats where i'm stuck now! God i hate money sometimes. I have to look long term and moving up is what i want to do. I'll keep you all posted, ive got just over a hour to make my mind up.
Don't let the money sway you. Nice, but will it be enough in another year or two when you're bored and topped out at Napa? Sounds like the dealership will have more opportunity to advance, which means more fulfillment and more money in the long run.
More money, that's funny. Walmart is opening a distribution center near us and it is hiring forklift operators for $16-18 (likely never see much of a raise though). Thing is, they work varied shifts, weekends, nights, etc and likely mandatory overtime. We start at $13 and respect our long term employees, a 5 year employee will see $24 hour plus full benefits.
Look "long-term"!!!

Lol, no not Orangeville but ive got a good friend that works there in sales.
I did make my mind up. I've decided to stay at Napa. Its a private not corporate store so i dont have to worry about losing my job unless i screw up. I'm now going to be the outside sales manager, big incress in pay and less hours. It came down to following my heart in the end. I can say i'm very happy with the decision i made. Ive busted my *** off for years and its payed off!!
