I cant seem to find pics right now, I used to have a bunch. But, S5 rotors will have machining marks all around the faces. Like very fine lines running from apex to apex. The S4 ones will not have this, and usually the combustion chambers will be cast a bit bumpy and uneven. And I would wait to get verification from someone whose dealt with FC engines more recently than I (Its been a while), but I think that looks like a S5 block, no EGR, etc..

thats what i was told too but from my understanding s5 housing should have a knock sensor hole above the trailing sparkplug hole and this one does have that and also the rear iron is a s4 as well cuz it doesnt have the coolant senor on it, thats why im confused lol the only think that i can verify that is s5 on this motor so far with out cracking it open is the center iron lol, also if u look closely the housing are different from each other one has ribs and the other is smoother

i think that's a pre-86 engine. i don't see the waves in the rotor housings, nor do i see the oil injection ports/nozzles.

so that means if i were to run engine in my fc i would have to run premix right? the guy that sold it told me it was an s5, but i highly doubt it is im sure its just an engine thats a mix of parts, im hoping it at least has the s5 rotors. imma take it apart to see if they are s5 or not

Those are early housings. The right one looks late 70's, as I have three of those. the left is unfamiliar.

s4 rotors have a cast combustion recess, s5 + are machined.

that engine looks like a gsl-se with the front rotor housing from a 80 or earlier engine

this engine that i bought was suppose to be s5 but its not only thing s5 on this piece is the center iron and the housing have coolant seals and the irons are 6port so those have coolant seals so the person who built this engine used double coolant seals and was missing one oil control ring, so i doubt this engine ran like the seller told me... and the side seals are stuck and flat so i dont think it even had compression...so i got ripped off and scammed in to thinking it was something its not.... im hoping that atleast the rotors are s5 so i can use the but one of the rotors is seized on to the e shaft..and they were mixed match rotors one a B and the other is a D so i cant even use them together

you got ripped

looks like a hybrid motor with GSL-SE rotor housings and fuel injected S4-S5 irons. i'm guessing his housings were worn and he opted to use the wrong ones, the chrome is much weaker on the early 13B engines.

edit: double coolant seals? man, what people will do these days to try and get some $... be sure to post his info in the "bad guy" section.

yeah i will differently post him up on the bad guy section... it is pretty sad that someone could rip off another rotary enthusiast for a few bucks

well i got lucky a few weeks ago and found an s5 motor in the junkyard i opened it up to see what it looked like inside everything looks fine except for the bearing and apex seals so imma do a complete rebuild on the motor my only worry is that when i found it had water inside the rotor housings and it looks as tho one of them has been damage by it and i would like to know if its still usable here are a few pictures of the rotor, it doesnt seem to bad to me but i could be wrong i dont know if it could cause hot spots or something of that sort here are the pics

It's not that the chrome is weaker, it's that 3mm seals are much harsher on the rotor housings.

Eh, if it works, it works. People do it often enough to mate FD side housings with 12A rotor housings.
