rx7 intake , exhaust: tunning?
I've heard that if you modify your intake system (cold air intake) and exhaust (header, cat and mufflers) that you have to tune your car in order for these mods to perform or else your motor ***** up?? is this true? i've had a 240 and it had no problems changing out intake, header/exhuast, but im new at rotary. So ive been asking more ppl but no one really gives me an exact answer.
This idea comes from turbocharged rotaries. If you have an NA car, don't worry about it.
Turbo'd rotaries cannot tolerate lean AFRs under heavy load. When you add mods on a car with stock boost control, boost levels increase and AFRs get leaner. The old school way of thinking was to keep count of the number of flow mods so that yo don't create a setup that's going to elevate the boost too much. The more modern approach is to use a boost gauge and boost controller to keep boost where it needs to be according to your setup.

Since your profile lists a 90 NA, adding headers, which won't pass CARB, and a CAI would be the first and best step to increase hp/performance. These 2 mods are safe without any other adjustments needed.
