Cool Greddy Water Temp Gauge acting up

So I had a chance to AutoX my FD for the first time with the local Chicago Windy City Miata Club. As I was leaving the facility, I started my car and I saw my A pillar temp gauge jumping from 30 to 80 back to 30 and then it suddenly bounced back and forth from the peg to the max multiple times. Now the car is operating fine and as I started to pull away the Gauge suddenly kicked back into "normal" mode at around 65 degrees C (It had been sitting for about 2hrs after I completed) and operated with no problems.

On my final way home on the high way it started to do the dame thing again, only it settled itself down after about 5 secs of crazyness. I am assuming I have a loose connection somewhere or a short. The main question (since I haven't put this in myself, the car came with it already in place) is where do I look first? The last thing I want to do is remove the dash if I dont have too.

By the way, if anyone cares I beat an '05 Z06 on the course by over a second and a half.
