i changed my oil today and noticed my oil smells like it has gas in it. is this just a rotary thing or what?

 

Yes it is. There is always some fuel dilution in the oil and it happens more so when it is in the fuel-rich warm-up cycle. As your seals start to wear, you get a stronger smell.

 

does it cause any damage to the engine. is thare any danger in it ?

 

yes there should be some, but it should be pretty minor though... if there is the smell of fuel in the oil after changing the oil the car may have been flooded quite a few times or other issues.

 

My 85 SE oil stinks of fuel cause it got flooded recently. the only thing to do is keep changing the oil as often as possible. The fuel mix does decrease the lubrication qualities of the oil.

 

how do i tell if it has been flooded.

thats only happened once but it started after about 10 seconds.

no it doesnt except for that one time

 

My oil smells like gas too. I noticed it soon after I got it (1994) but I had flooded it big time once. Many years and oil changes later it still smells like gas

I take it it is not normal.
Maybe leaky injectors?
