Gut it to a bare shell and prep the body kit a little bit then paint it.

The interior will be a semi street/race setup with a little bit of gutting.

Suspension will be very involved. The only stock parts will be the lower control arms and strut housings, although modified. Everything else that has to do with suspension or steering will be aftermarket.

Drive train, will be a 13B bridge port race motor we have. If time permits it will be setup for blow through.

It needs to be completed by the end of March.

I just got an email from the guy who originally built the car. The kit is the original IMSA kit. It was the last one available when he built the car. We are looking into the feasibility of pulling molds from the kit.

And please keep us updated.

Well.......Time is running out. Project is still a go but moving slowly. Not sure if it will make DG this year. If it does, the rear suspension plans will not be as we hoped and the body will not be prepped and painted. Just simply ran out of time.

The particulars so far:

The shell was completely gutted sans the fuel tank and wiper motor. We found one spot of rust on the front wheel well near the frame rail and one in the normal spot at the rear upper control arm. Both have been repaired with new plates made and flush welded in place.

We decided not to seam weld the tub. Seam welding could have class limitations later if the car was ever built to specific regulations. Fabrication to the chassis so far has been a bracket for the fuel regulator fabbed and welded in place, hood pin bungs welded in place and brackets made to hang the FC oil cooler.

The chassis was chemically stripped (Not Dipped). Acetone wiped and then primed and painted. Parts are slowly making the way back on.

More pictures are in the thread at www.vintagerotaries.org

The project is not complete but we wanted to post an update. The wide body project stared out as a rolling shell we picked up in Florida. Body kit was installed and at one point the car had a cage in it. We have not touched body work nor final paint yet. That should be done mid February.

The shell was completely stripped of all parts. Shell was then prepped by aircraft stripping all the wheel wells, interior and engine compartment. Once clean we began to repair the wheel well rot. Sections were cut out and new sheet welded in place. We used new upper arm support brackets removed from a donor chassis to complete the repair. All non used holes were filled on the firewall with round slugs cut from sheet metal and welded in place. Once the welds were ground down you can not see where the hole were. Threaded bungs were welded in place for the hood pins and the fuel pressure regulator bracket was fabricated and welded to the pinch weld on the firewall. Brackets were fabricated and welded for the second generation oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator. We then covered the tire well with our normal fuel cell block off panel though we have chosen to stay with the stock tank for a while. A simple 4 point bar was fabricated from 1.5" x .095 wall DOM. The bar was built to help support the rear shock area for possible future updates in the back. It was also built so that it can be updated to a full cage later. Once chassis fabrication was completed we sprayed the engine area, interior and wheel wells gloss white.

Our goal with the car is a streetable, track day car that represents our abilities and product line. We wanted to build the vehichle with an "old school" look. It will be used for a few track days her an there as well as to show the vehicle at events like Deals Gap and SevenStock. To attain this goal we decided there would be interior from the main hoop forward. There would be a full street legal wire harness. All the parts for the vehicle would come from our online store or our available sources just as our customers would do. Power plant will be a Bridgeported 12A ran normally aspirated in the beginning and then converted to blow through once broken in. We already have the engine, it just needs to be freshened up sometime in February.

The following list is where the project currently stands.

Drivtrain:

FB gearbox
New drive shaft
GSL-SE pumpkin
ReSpeed/Moser axles
ReSpeed HD Axle retainer plates

Exhaust:

PROTOTYPE ReSpeed Pre-Silencer
PROTOTYPE ReSpeed re packable, modular lava rock Muffler
ReSpeed fabricated mandrel exhaust. 3" to 2.5" over the axle housing. (Future Turbo)

Brakes:

ReSpeed Mark I front and rear big brake kit.
Brembo blank rotors, re-drilled 4 lug
EBC Green Pads
ReSpeed re manufactured caliper sets
ReSpeed Stainless line kit
Rear brake bias lever with stainless plumbing
Speed Bleeders

Front Suspension:

ReSpeed Race coil over kit
ReSpeed 350# front springs
Modified and powder coated front spindles
ReSpeed Caster/Camber Plates
ReSpeed lower control arm Spherical joint kits
Tokico 5 way inserts (Race)
ReSpeed 1" Roll center blocks
ReSpeed Tubular Competition Sway Bar
ReSpeed Strut Tower and Firewall Brace

Rear Suspension:
The rear setup is a work in progress. We hope to start developing the first quarter of '08
ReSpeed rear spring adjuster kit
ReSpeed 175# springs

Steering:

ReSpeed rack/pinion kit with Aluminum engine mount upgrade
Flaming river 15:1 rack

Ignition:

MSD 6A on leading, direct fire
ReSpeed 3 Coil Mount
Autometer Rev Limiter

Electrical:

Two completely independent wiring systems. First one is a painless fuse box kit that handles all ignition, fuel and electric fan circuits. Fuses are mounted to the dash for quick repair. Second is a gutted stock harness that handles the street car aspects like turn signals and wipers. The stock harness was laid out and unwrapped, all unwanted wires were de-pinned and removed. Pop up headlight motors were replaced with supports
ReSpeed FC fuse box bracket.
Relocated battery with fabricated mount structure

Fuel System:

Holly adjustable regulator
ReSpeed 0-10 Fuel Pressure Gauge
ReSpeed Dry Break

General:

Relocated oil filter using ReSpeed block off and filter mount
-10 Stainless oil cooler lines
Second generation oil cooler
ReSpeed Cold air radiator support
Rotary Shack boost prepped Weber IDF
15"x8" wheels with Spec Miata Toyo Proxes tires

Still to be finished:

Body work and paint
Aluminum Door Skins
12A Bridge buildup
ReSpeed aluminum radiator
Turbo Manifold and Down pipe
Boost Hat
Rear Suspension development
